    JOB TITLE:   DESIGN ENGINEER

    FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT

    COMPANY SUMMARY

    ROLE:

    Responsible for the research and design of new products and systems. and for product performance and design improvement activities. Will perform engineering analysis to ensure designs meet both cost and performance goals. Establish and manage design schedules and engineering test plans. Hands-on support for root cause analysis, prototype development, and implementation of designs. Effectively communicate design progress to the project stakeholders.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Lead product improvement design activities with assistance from the Engineering manager and/or R&D Design Leader. This includes continuous improvement and/or research projects.

    • Develop and manage project design schedules. Ensure design activities meet project scope targets and overall project goals. Prioritize design activities to engineering team members.

    • Perform engineering calculations and analysis and work with vendors to develop production part designs. 

    • Develop and/or review designs to ensure fit, form, and function are correct. Ensure all drawings have the correct dimensions and accurately represent design intent. Create and execute test plans to validate designs.

    • Communicate product design activities both formally and informally to key project stakeholders. Work with manufacturing engineers, materials, and marketing, sales and support, and project managers to achieve project goals. 

    • Provide customer service assistance by providing technical support to ensure customer satisfaction.

    • Become intimately familiar with product components and designs, understanding how design relates to field performance and certification requirements.

    • Research new materials and methods of development.

    • Construct prototypes and confirm designs with the design/purchasing team

    • Performs physical testing on engineering prototypes.

    • Ensures compliance with industry safety and design standards and guidelines.

    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

     

    SKILLS:

    • Knowledge of MS Office and SolidWorks.
    • Must be able to develop and interpret technical drawings and specifications of electrical and mechanical systems to ensure that installation and operations conform to standards, and regulatory requirements.
    • Strong knowledge of metal and plastic fabrication processes.
    • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Working knowledge of 2D and 3D Modeling software.
    • Hands-on mechanical shop skills desired
    • Must proficiently establish key quality characteristics, tolerances, and test methods to ensure the project objectives are met.
    • Must problem-solve, train, direct, and communicate effectively and possess proficient organizational, interpersonal, and multi-tasking abilities

    KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):

    • The ability to determine product feature needs through the accurate interpretation of verbal designs while create 3D visuals to lock the industrial design process early in process
    • Build, maintain, and track product design iterations from concept to launch in a methodical manner
    • The development and launch of successful deliverables as per specifications, and within budget
    • The application of time management skills and the proven ability to meet deadlines
    • The cultivation of Interpersonal relationships, building and maintaining strong lines of communication and teamwork across all levels of the organization.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.

    • 3+ years of related experience.

    • Strong graphic design background.

    • Must be a self-starter with initiative and an ability to identify opportunities for process improvement.

    • Ability to identify and recommend changes in work methods, process, and equipment to reduce costs and/or improve quality.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, standing, and twisting in performance of various tasks in the production environment.
    • Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
    • Able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
    • Must be able to safely access and navigate the operations and production areas as needed.
