JOB TITLE: DESIGN ENGINEER

ROLE:
Responsible for the research and design of new products and systems. and for product performance and design improvement activities. Will perform engineering analysis to ensure designs meet both cost and performance goals. Establish and manage design schedules and engineering test plans. Hands-on support for root cause analysis, prototype development, and implementation of designs. Effectively communicate design progress to the project stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Lead product improvement design activities with assistance from the Engineering manager and/or R&D Design Leader. This includes continuous improvement and/or research projects.
Develop and manage project design schedules. Ensure design activities meet project scope targets and overall project goals. Prioritize design activities to engineering team members.
Perform engineering calculations and analysis and work with vendors to develop production part designs.
Develop and/or review designs to ensure fit, form, and function are correct. Ensure all drawings have the correct dimensions and accurately represent design intent. Create and execute test plans to validate designs.
Communicate product design activities both formally and informally to key project stakeholders. Work with manufacturing engineers, materials, and marketing, sales and support, and project managers to achieve project goals.
Provide customer service assistance by providing technical support to ensure customer satisfaction.
Become intimately familiar with product components and designs, understanding how design relates to field performance and certification requirements.
Research new materials and methods of development.
Construct prototypes and confirm designs with the design/purchasing team
Performs physical testing on engineering prototypes.
Ensures compliance with industry safety and design standards and guidelines.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
SKILLS:

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
3+ years of related experience.
Strong graphic design background.
Must be a self-starter with initiative and an ability to identify opportunities for process improvement.
Ability to identify and recommend changes in work methods, process, and equipment to reduce costs and/or improve quality.
