    This is an entry level Lab Technician position which receives training from others regarding tasks and with the expectation of training should be able to perform all repetitive/routine tasks without direction. All Lab positions exist with an expectation that the individual will work safely according to sitepolicies and procedures and that any technician will take ownership of their safety and the safety of their co-workers. - To provide quality assurance testing of raw materials, intermediates and finished products for the Evans City site within the scope of the Quality Management System. - Evaluate data using appropriate software to ensure the results meet internal and external specifications. - To notify management of unusual product observations, analytical results or instrumentation issues. - Support the continuous improvement of lab and site processes through Quality activities to meet and/or exceed customer expectations. Knowledge and Experience - Required: - Bachelor's (no experience) or Associates in Science with relevant experience (>2 years) - Troubleshooting skills - Basic math skills - Basic understanding of general chemistry - Basic computer skills using software packages such as Microsoft Office and email - Experience with Standard Operating Procedures - Detail oriented with the ability to record and report pertinent data. - Demonstrated organizational skills. - Must have good interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment and interact with employees at all levels in the organization. - Good communication skills (oral and written). - Ability to work rotating shifts Prefer: - Experience working in a manufacturing environment on rotating shifts. - Experience supporting ISO9000. - Experience with SAP/LIMS. - Experience running various lab instrumentation such as GC's, Titrators, FTIR, etc. Physical Requirements: This is a rotating shift position which requires the ability to work overtime in a seven day per week environment as required. - Must work overtime to support 24/7 production requirements, as needed. - Must be able to work outdoor and use stairways/ladders to perform tasks. - Physical strength is required to operate manual process equipment. - Must meet lifting requirements (<50 lbs.) and pass physical and respiratory requirements. Principal Responsibilities - The Lab Tech 1 is responsible for the following including but not limited to: - Analyze site products, intermediates, and raw materials by following QC documented procedures for sample handling, preparation, and documentation, Methods of Analysis, and policies to document and assure that products meet site specifications and customer requirements. - Operate site QC instrumentation in a safe, professional manner following established quality, safety, and environmental procedures and policies. - Notify Management promptly of unusual product observations or analytical results, during analysis or sample handling, to assure potential quality issues identified, reviewed and resolved prior to release of product. - Perform Quality calibrations, internal audits, and project assignments in a timely, safe, professional, manner following established Quality Procedures and report results, issues, or roadblocks to Management. - Focuses on defined tasks; recognizes problems and seeks help for resolution. - Demonstrates basic knowledge and understanding of chemical analysis. - Performs chemical calculations per the SOP. - Uses instrument computer programs. - Performs basic troubleshooting with program issues with instrumentation with guidance from a more senior tech. - Performs QC performance checks, calibrations following the standard operating procedures. - Completes training proficiency satisfactory and timely. - Follows all site safety rules, corporate and site policies and safety and written work procedures. - Uses appropriate QC instrumentation to perform QC analysis per the SOP. - Performs housekeeping duties. - Makes suggestions for efficiencies. All employees must work within the site documented business management system, policies, procedures (ISO, RCMS, PSM, Training Systems, Legal Compliance, etc.). Effective communication is required in all positions. This communication may be verbal and/or written as determined by the supervisor and may be directed to various other positions within the site. In addition, there may be other duties as assigned by supervisor.
