    Job Summary

    The Director of HIM will enjoy working for a Healthcare Facility in the Chicagoland area. As an HIM Director, you will responsible for managing, coordinating, and performing the day-to-day operations and workflow of the facility based HIM operations. As the Director of HIM you will interpret data and analyze information on financial, medical and business reports to forecast departmental activities for budget projections.

     

    Responsibilities:

     

    • Direct and oversee multiple departments and ensure compliance with all local and federal regulations. Monitor performance relative to competitors; creating and maintaining patient data records systems; contributing to budget development; and keeping up-to-date on various regulatory codes such as HIPAA and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
    • Routinely assist in the performance of facility based HIM operations including, but not limited to, ad hoc record pick up and reconciliation, release of information request processing, and hardcopy retrieval of medical records as needed.
    • Participates in activities with performance improvement, MR/UR Committee meetings, data/statistics for internal and other medical staff meetings, reports of record delinquency and physician suspension, etc
    • Assist with ensuring all applicable EHR and Computer Assisted Coding (e.g., HPF, MPF, Cerner, Epic, MEDITECH, 3M 360 Encompass) workflow queues (includes, but is not limited to, the Facility HIM Department Queue, all Coding Pend for Queues, Review Queues, Unknown Document Queue, Cancelled Accounts Queue and all Wait for Workflow Trigger Queues) are worked according to established workflow policies and guidelines
    • Performs or oversees personnel management functions
    • Use ICD-10-CM coding and CPT/HCPCS coding systems.
    • Provides training and support to HIM staff.
    • Assists CFO with department annual budget
    • Works collaboratively with physicians and department managers to achieve department and hospital requirements and goals.
    • Establishes specific and necessary planning, control and quality assurance mechanisms that monitor patient care, administrative and economic outcomes.
    • Enforces the Medical Staff Rules and Regulations for delinquent medical records.
    • Reporting to the CEO any incidents and ensuing investigative findings recommendations, and actions of HIPAA breaches.
    • Strives to create a safe, healing environment for patients and family members.
    • Establishes and monitors standards of performance among all subordinates and ensures that standards are being consistently met.
    • Assumes the responsibility for successfully fulfilling standards and criteria of licensing and accrediting agencies.

      Requirements:

       

    • Graduate of an AHIMA accredited program with a Baccalaureate degree in Science and Medical Record Administration or higher.
    • Minimum of five years’ experience as an HIM Director in an acute care facility and in all aspects of health information management functions.
    • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, adhoc query software, electronic health record, image scan/index software and workflow, computer assisted coding (preferably 3M), Cerner Electronic Medical Records, Privacy Officer, HIPAA, and Compliance.
    • Strengths in team leadership, problem solving, effective decision making, and accountability.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Desire to go above and beyond for others.
    • Understanding and accepting of cultural diversity and differences.
    • 5+ years of previous related experience in Medical Records and/or Health Information Management.

      License
      A valid Illinois Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
