    Do you absolutely love to be of service to others? Are you organized and detail-oriented? If so, the Health Information Management (HIM) Clerk role could be a great fit for you. We have several clients coming through our pipeline very quickly. We are looking for individuals to collect, maintain, and make available to authorized users timely, accurate, and complete patient health information. The position will report to the manager of the Health Information Management Department.

    Responsibilities:

    • Retrieves all chart requests from in box no less than every five minutes
    • Pulls, assembles, delivers, and electronically tracks charts requested stat within 15 minutes of receipt
    • Pulls, assembles, electronically tracks, and delivers via cart runner charts requested for appointments prior to the appointment
    • Pulls, assembles, electronically tracks, and delivers via cart runner all other charts requested within one hour of receipt
    • Replaces charts pulled with an out guide that reflects where the chart is being delivered
    • For patients with two appointments on the same day, completes appropriate transfer slip notifying first appointment to transport record to second appointment and second appointment record location at first appointment site
    • Places current year sticker on chart
    • Prior to delivery, correctly organizes documents in each patient's record according to the chart order policy
    • Keeps the requester of any record that was not in file notified of efforts to locate.

     

    Skills and Qualifications

    • Health information technology background – HIM clerks should have a strong understanding of health information concepts and practices. Knowledge of medical terminology, billing, and organization is required for success
    • Knowledge of HIPAA- medical privacy regulations and practices
    • Data entry – HIM clerks are responsible for entering large amounts of patient data into electronic databases. They must do this without making a significant number of mistakes
    • Basic computer skills – HIM clerks should know how to send emails, install and uninstall software programs, use a word processor, and browse the internet for information
    • Organization skills – since HIM clerks work with a large number of files and information, they should be able to stay organized at all times
    • Communication skills – excellent written and verbal communication skills are needed to become a HIM clerk. Clerks should feel comfortable expressing themselves in a professional and calm manner

      Education and Experience

       

      Minimal requirement: A high school diploma with one (1) year office experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
