  • Responsibilities

    The Facilities Supervisor provides leadership, coordination, training, scheduling and supervision of maintenance staff members and actively participates in the repair and maintenance of grounds, structures, office and laboratory space, to ensure high quality service and customer satisfaction. In addition, the Facilities Supervisor assists the Facilities Director with the administration of the maintenance department.

    • Evaluate problematic systems and determine what repair services need to be performed or outsourced
    • Prioritize maintenance requests and facilitate prompt response, utilizing the electronic work order system, consulting with Facilities Director as needed
    • Ensure that maintenance staff is providing top level and timely customer service
    • Supervise, motivate, develop and provide direct leadership to maintenance staff
    • Performs daily walk through of buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repairs making notes and recommendations
    • Diagnose and perform maintenance repairs, including good understanding & working knowledge of electrical systems, AC & heating, water & sewer lines, and plumbing systems
    • In conjunction with Facilities Director, coordinate work of outside contractors, obtaining bids when necessary, and ensure that work called for in any maintenance contract is completed and adequate.
    • Performs painting and carpentry (e.g. preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paints, stains, and varnishes, hanging doors, fitting locks and handles, etc.)
    • Performs mounting of whiteboards, large monitor screens, and various types of ergonomic systems
    • Performs repairs to flooring, cabinets and various equipment in laboratories
    • Communicates effectively, timely and appropriately at the necessary frequency with subordinates, peers and superiors.
    • Responds to emergencies, initiating emergency maintenance actions, cleaning up debris, water, etc., and contacting supervisors.
    • Must be available for after hours emergency coverage

    Required Skills

    • Strong technical knowledge HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry
    • Experience in laboratory environment highly desirable
    • General knowledge of furniture and cubicle systems
    • Detail oriented and strong sense of urgency
    • Strong customer service skills
    • Excellent written and verbal skills
    • Meticulous aptitude
    • Ability to organize workloads of multiple staff at multiple projects.
    • Ability to work safely with hazardous materials, including hazardous waste
    • Ability to lift up to 50lbs with or without accommodation
    • Knowledge of general facilities safety practices and procedures
    • Mechanical aptitude
    • Ability to work independently as well as a team player
    • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization

    Required Experience

    • High School diploma, minimum requirement or equivalent experience
    • 5 to 7 years of previous general facilities experience or equivalent
    • 2 years prior experience as Maintenance Supervisor preferred
