    SUMMARY: The diagnostician implements the special education assessment process. This includes assessing the educational, learning styles, and program needs of students referred to special education services as well as providing diagnostic information. It is essential that the diagnostician works cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate programs for students with disabilities.

    • Utilize various assessment instruments and techniques, as a part of multidisciplinary team to assist in identifying students eligible for Special Education Services and in determining appropriate intervention strategies and techniques
    • Organize assignments to meet due dates and mandated timelines
    • Provide consultation to parents and school personnel regarding the educational needs of students as they relate to the instructional setting
    • Write full and individual evaluation reports
    • Provide referral information to students, families, program and professionals regarding the needs of referral students
    • Attend Admissions, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee meetings and interpret evaluation results
    • Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must routinely lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel throughout the district is integral to this job. A remote working environment /alternate work arrangement is not an option for campus-based employees/campus-based positions because regular and punctual attendance at the worksite and performing all duties at the worksite are essential job duties for all campus-based personnel.

    Qualifications

    • Master's Degree from an accredited university; professional certification as an Educational Diagnostician by the Texas Education Agency
    • Valid Texas teaching certification with a minimum of three years of successful teaching in a public or private school setting
    • Successful completion of the Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES)
    • Knowledge of the administration and interpretation of a wide variety of psycho-educational evaluation instruments
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Professional and Encore
    • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral format
    • Must have own transportation and be willing to travel throughout the district
    • Ability to communicate in Spanish and Sign Language is a plus
