We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented freelance Assessment Writer to support the development of high-quality political science content for our online learning portfolio. In this role, you will create multiple-choice question pools, poll questions, writing prompts, and other formative and summative assessments aligned to course learning objectives. The ideal candidate will have experience developing assessments that:
Address key ideas from historical political documents
Support the development of data literacy through the interpretation and analysis of data sets
You’ll collaborate with our team of learning designers to ensure that all assessment materials are academically rigorous, engaging, and tailored to the needs of instructors and adult learners across diverse higher education environments.

Responsibilities
Write clear, well-designed multiple-choice items, writing prompts, poll questions, and other formative and summative assessment content
Rigorously align assessment content with learning design and instructional goals
Incorporate data analysis and historical interpretation into assessment tasks where appropriate
Respond constructively to editorial and design feedback
Meet deadlines and follow communication and documentation protocols
Requirements
Minimum 5 years of teaching experience in history, social studies, political science, nonfiction reading, or a related field (grades 5–12 or higher education preferred)
At least 1–2 years of experience writing curriculum or assessment materials outside the classroom
Strong understanding of best practices in multiple-choice item writing
Comfort with teaching and writing about data literacy concepts
Can explain terms like “margin of error” to introductory-level students
Able to identify and address common misconceptions in data interpretation
Experience managing projects and workflows independently
Strong technical and communication skills; familiarity with tools like Google Docs, Slack, and Word
Highly organized, self-motivated, and committed to excellence
Experience working with undergraduate curriculum strongly preferred
