    Job Description

    The Evening Assignment Manager plays a key leadership role in overseeing the assignment desk during late-day and evening hours. This position ensures seamless editorial operations and content flow in support of primetime programming. The ideal candidate will have strong editorial judgment, leadership experience, and the ability to manage high-stakes breaking news during evening broadcasts.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead the assignment desk during evening hours, with a focus on supporting live primetime shows and special coverage.
    • Coordinate with field crews and digital teams to ensure comprehensive, timely news coverage.
    • Oversee breaking news response, guiding editorial decisions and deployment strategy in collaboration with senior newsroom leadership.
    • Maintain clear communication between platforms, shows, and field teams to ensure alignment on priorities and coverage plans.
    • Monitor wires, social media, and internal systems to identify developments and elevate emerging stories in real time.
    • Work closely with show teams to anticipate content needs and support editorial planning into overnight and next-day shifts.
    • Enforce editorial standards and contribute to the consistency and credibility of the brand across all platforms.

    Requirements

    • 5+ years of newsroom experience, including leadership roles on an assignment desk or in field coordination.
    • Strong editorial judgment with demonstrated ability to manage high-impact, breaking news situations.
    • Experience supporting live television broadcasts, particularly in evening or primetime programming.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
    • Familiarity with newsroom systems, planning tools, and content workflows.
    • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
    • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

    Preferred Qualities

    • A strong understanding of U.S. politics and political coverage plans
    • Skilled in providing on-site support to news teams during high-stakes breaking stories and coordinated event coverage

    Salary range: $115,000 - $125,000
