Job Summary:
Essential Functions:
Assist in maintaining the Carnesecca Athletic Training Facilities to maintain optimal health, safety, and welfare of the student-athletes.
Communicate with direct report physicians and coaching staff regarding the injury status of athletes.
Make appropriate physician’s referrals and appointments.
Immediately establish and continuously maintain a working knowledge of the NCAA and BIG EAST Conference rules and regulations and St. John's University Policies and Procedures.
Maintain all medical records for all medical visits, treatments, and procedures for all student athletes under their direct care in the electronic medical records system
Continuously adhere to operating guidelines, policies, and procedures in your area of responsibility within the department to ensure 100% compliance with the NCAA/BIG EAST rules and regulations.
Fulfill the University's mission of assisting students and others.
Perform other administrative duties assigned by supervisor.
Competencies :
Must be able to solve problems and troubleshoot issues, work independently, and use sound professional judgement.
Proficient computer skills and knowledge required, specifically with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access plus other database environments preferred.
**Supervisory Responsibility : **
Handle the day-to-day operations of the Sports Medicine Athletic Training Facility in Carnesecca Training Room.
Oversee and coordinate with rehabilitation, including the partnership with Professional Physical Therapy.
Work Environment :
This job operates in a professional office environment. Non-traditional hours, nights, weekends, and travel are included. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, etc.
Physical Demands :
The physical demands of the job include being able to provide emergency First Aid, CPR, and AED. The job entails lifting, filling, and transporting water coolers.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; move about; sit; carry work and use controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; and communicate.; The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the employee include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Environmental Conditions :
This position may require candidates to work in all weather conditions. Heat, cold, dry, rain, snow, and wind for hours at a time.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work :
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are varied and may include weekends, nights, and overnight travel.
Travel :
Travel is primarily to other BIG EAST Conference schools and to other regional Universities.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree.
1-3 years related experience or training in collegiate sports medicine, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC).
CPR/AED and First Aid Certified.
NATA certification.
NYS ATC Licensure- (must have applied if new to New York State).
