    Position Summary / Primary Purpose:

    This position will be responsible and accountable for the financial and daily accounting functions/operations of a newly formed conglomerate of companies. The Assistant Controller will maintain an adequate system of accounting records, including a comprehensive set of controls and budgets. This position will document and oversee the accounting processes, create, and analyze financial reporting, and ensure compliance with GAAP.

    The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of contract and construction accounting principles and practices, along with exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills.

    This is a full-time, office position.

    Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and financial reporting
    • Report on weekly metrics, cash flow forecasts and P&L flashes
    • Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk
    • Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial statements and assisting with year-end audits
    • Conduct variance analysis and provide insights into financial performance, highlighting areas for improvement and cost-saving opportunities
    • Partner with both on-site and contract accounting staff and provide guidance and support as needed, fostering a culture of teamwork and professional development
    • Develop and maintain financial models and forecasts to support strategic decision-making, business planning and budgeting
    • Monitor AR and AP with the goal of improving free cash flow, implementing appropriate controls to mitigate risks
    • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal policies
    • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic financial forecasts, working closely with department heads to gather input and validate assumptions
    • Stay current on industry trends and best practices in contract and construction accounting, recommending process improvements and system enhancements as appropriate.
    • Recommends benchmarks that will be used to measure the company’s performance
    • Evaluate all manual processes and look for automated or technology-based solutions
    • Formalize a process to close the books within ten business days after month-end
    • Establish and maintain strong working relationships company executives key stakeholders; collaborate on solutions to cross-functional business problems
    • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements
    • Works with external auditors and provides needed information for audits
    • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience); CPA or CMA designation preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in contract and/or construction accounting preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP and familiarity with contract and construction industry accounting standards (percentage of completion method and completed contract method).
    • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or equivalent; experience with QuickBooks Online and Acculynx/Job Nimbus project software is a plus.
    • Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to create complex financial models and perform data analysis.
    • Excellent communication and people skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
    • Proven leadership abilities and a track record of successfully managing and developing accounting staff.
    • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an initiative-taking and solution-oriented mindset.
