    Assistant Controller 

    StaffBuffalo is working with a respected professional services organization in Buffalo, NY that is seeking an Assistant Controller to support its growing accounting function. This role partners closely with the Controller to help manage daily accounting operations while ensuring accuracy across billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger activities.

    The Assistant Controller will contribute to financial reporting, support audits, assist with trust accounting processes, and help identify opportunities to improve efficiency through reporting tools and technology. This position is ideal for an analytical accounting professional who enjoys collaborating with a team, strengthening processes, and helping an organization continue to scale its financial operations.

    Responsibilities

    • Support daily accounting operations across accounts receivable, billing, accounts payable, and general ledger functions
    • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, ensuring accurate financial reporting
    • Serve as a backup resource across accounting functions and review transactions for accuracy and proper classification
    • Work with external auditors by preparing documentation, reports, and supporting schedules during audit processes
    • Develop and maintain reports and dashboards using Excel to present financial data clearly for leadership
    • Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, processes, and reporting through automation and technology
    • Collaborate with internal accounting staff and outsourced partners to ensure smooth financial operations

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field
    • 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience
    • Strong understanding of financial statements, general ledger activity, and accounting principles
    • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis
    • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret financial data and present findings clearly
    • Professional services, legal, or trust accounting experience is helpful but not required
    • Willingness to learn trust accounting processes and support a collaborative accounting team
