    The Glen Retirement System is looking for a dedicated and experienced RN with excellent nursing and administrative skills to assume a full-time position as Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) for our 126-bed Long-Term Care Facility, Village Health Care at The Glen.

    SCHEDULE VARIATION: Normally scheduled to work a minimum of 40 hours a week.

    ASSIGNED SHIFT: Shift is normally an 8 hour shift during regular business hours but start/end times may vary and could be changed depending on the needs of The Glen. (Assignment may vary)

    REPORTING: Reports directly to the Director of Nursing

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assists the Director of Nursing in directing, monitoring, and organizing the personnel and services provided by the nursing department to improve the quality of resident care and services provided by our team. In the absence of Director of Nursing, you will serve as an administrative resource overseeing the team by ensuring quality resident care and compliance with all federal, state and local rules and regulations, as well as the policies and procedures of The Glen Retirement System.

    ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

    Administrative

    Promotes and develops good rapport and communication with the Director of Nursing, reporting all risk management issues and significant changes in resident condition in a timely manner.

    Has input to the Director of Nursing regarding needs of the nursing department.

    Makes frequent rounds in the Households to assess staff performance. Assures compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

    Has input on employee performance evaluations and counseling/disciplining of nursing staff.

    Coordinates clinical care with ancillary departments and services.

    Communicates resident and family grievances to the Administrator and Director of Nursing. Participates in grievance investigations and resolutions.

    Has input on the development of nursing department policies and procedures.

    Participates in pre-hire interviews, hire process and has input on staff selection.

    Participates in activities related to facility inspection or investigation by regulatory or accrediting agencies.

    Serves as an assistant to the Nursing Director to assure the nursing department’s compliance with regulatory requirements.

    Monitors to assure residents’ rights are protected and residents are free from abuse and neglect.

    Serves as an assistant to the Director of Nursing in developing departmental goals.

    May be assigned to provide data related to development and maintenance of the Facility Assessment.

    Participates in the facility Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement program through collection of feedback and data to develop a systematic approach to quality improvement. Monitors quality performance data, implements actions or training, and provides reports.

    Serves as a member of the facility Infection Control Committee. May be appointed to serve as the Infection Preventionist. Collects data, monitors trends, implements corrective actions or training, provides reports.

    Participates in Electronic Health Record maintenance and updates as assigned.

    On-Call for staffing or administrative issues as assigned. May cover open shifts.

    Adheres to a professional code of ethics.

    Education

    Serves as an assistant to the Director of Nursing to plan and implement staff development to ensure competency of clinical staff. Has input on competency requirements as identified in the Facility Assessment.

    Participates in the orientation and training of nursing department staff.

    In-services staff on outcomes of quality data, infection trending, and interventions for resident care needs.

    Conducts skills competency evaluations and training.

    Maintains and improves competencies by participating in and attending professional educational programs.

    Budgeting /Fiscal Accountability

    Participates in budget accountability through obtaining approval for ancillary charges, tracking and submitting ancillary charges for month end billing.

    Participates in departmental activities to ensure documentation is present to support billed RUG levels for Medicare and Case Mix reimbursement.

    Clinical Mentor

    Communicates with Household nurses. Offers advice, guidance, and support to address clinical issues and resident or family concerns. Serves as a resource to staff in clinical and managerial decision-making.

    Performs regular resident assessments, oversees completion of delegated assessments, and makes updates to the resident plan of care.

    Participates in development of the resident plan of care. Ensures plan of care addresses identified needs and preferences in a holistic manner in coordination with resident and resident representative preferences and regulatory guidelines.

    Receives incident reports. Participates in investigation into root cause. Collects data, provides guidance and resources to implement preventive measures and documents feedback.

    Is a member of the interdisciplinary team.

    Communicates residents’ condition and changes in status to physicians. Rounds with physician as needed.

    Provides guidance to nursing staff on special care needs including but not limited to IV therapy, wound care, chronic disease care management and monitoring.

    Ensures lab, radiology, and other diagnostic service reports are acted on per facility policy.

    Monitors medication rooms, in-room medication storage, medication carts, and emergency pharmacy supply kit for regulatory compliance with state, federal, and pharmaceutical agencies.

    Receives and transcribes physician orders.

    Performs wound care rounds. Makes assessments and recommendations regarding treatments and preventive measures. Documents measurement, staging, and charts healing progress.

    Assures that weekly vital signs are obtained timely. Monitors for negative trends and communicates with Director of Nursing, Household team, and MD. Makes intervention recommendations.

    Monitors nutritional trends in the households. Records and reports significant weight loss to Director of Nursing, Dietician, and MD. Makes intervention recommendations.

    Answers consultant reviews. Communicates trends and takes corrective action. Provides report to the Director of Nursing and Medical Director.

    Monitors medication and treatment passes with Household nurses. Provide guidance on regulatory and infection control compliance. Has input on competency.

    Participates in pre-admission assessment, admission and readmission of residents.

    Participates in discharge planning and the discharge process.

    May be assigned to assist Medicare nurse and MDS coordinator with completion of MDS.

    Assist with implementation, documentation, and monitoring of restorative care programs.

    Assists with clinical emergencies.

    Other duties as assigned by Director of Nursing or Administrator.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as an administrative resource and leader for the facility in the absence of the Director of Nursing, supervising nursing department personnel.

    QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

    Current RN License in Louisiana

    Minimum one year Long Term Care experience desirable

    Strong clinical nursing skills

    Must be people-oriented individual, have good communication skills, and the ability to work with a diverse group of people.

    Must be able to work overtime as required.

    Well organized and self-motivated.

    Computer skills appropriate to job function

    Finger/hand dexterity to operate small equipment

    Hearing, visual skills to assess residents’ health status
