Assistant Manager / Director of Student Development
Balanced Martial Arts — Eastchester, NY
Full-Time | On-Site
About Balanced Martial Arts
Balanced Martial Arts is a growing school in the Eastchester area that takes the business of teaching martial arts seriously. We run on systems, we measure what we do, and we invest in the people on our team. We're not looking for someone to fill a chair, we're looking for an experienced leader who wants to help build something.
About the Role
This is a newly created position reporting directly to the owner. The Assistant Manager / Director of Student Development is the face of our front office and the operational backbone of the school. A mix of a behind the scenes administration and student/family communications is required to make sure the school runs smoothly.
If you love building relationships, closing enrollments, solving operational puzzles, and developing people, this role is designed for you.
The person in this role won't just operate our systems, they'll help define the standard of what excellence looks like at Balanced Martial Arts. We're looking for someone who leads by example, holds themselves and others to a high bar, and takes pride in being a steward of our culture.
What You'll Own
Enrollment & Growth
• Support lead generation
• Handle inbound inquiries (calls, texts, web leads) and convert them into trial students
• Conduct new-student orientations for students and families
• Manage the lead pipeline so no inquiry falls through the cracks
Student & Family Retention
• Serve as the primary off-the-mat liaison for parents — scheduled check-ins, milestone conversations, and day-to-day relationship building
• Gather feedback from students and families and relay it to the instructional team so we can continuously improve
• Coordinate make-ups, private lessons, events, and special appointments
Financial & Operational Health
• Monitor and follow up on delinquent accounts; collect in-school payments
• Process daily retail sales; track inventory and reorder routine items
• Run weekly and monthly performance reports on our key KPIs (retention rate, conversion rate, enrollments, cancellations, administrative accuracy)
Team Leadership
• Supervise and schedule school staff
• Communicate parent and student feedback clearly to the instructional team
• Participate in — and help drive — regular staff meetings
Marketing & Community
• Post 1–2 times per week on our social channels (primarily Instagram and Facebook) — student promotions, class moments, program highlights
• Represent Balanced Martial Arts at occasional community events, school partnerships, and booth opportunities
Facility & Presentation
· Walk the school daily to ensure the lobby, restrooms, training floor, and shared spaces are presentation-ready for students and families
· Handle light day-to-day cleaning and address small facility issues as they come up
What We're Looking For
Must-Haves
• 2+ years of experience in sales, customer service, operations, or a client-facing role
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills — especially with parents and kids
• Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable owning systems and metrics
• Comfortable with technology (we use Zen Planner and GoHighLevel; prior experience is a plus, but we'll train the right person)
• Reliable, accountable, and coachable
• Must pass a background check (we work with minors)
Nice-to-Haves
• Prior management or supervisory experience
• Martial arts background or personal training experience
• Familiarity with CRM and marketing automation tools
What We Offer
• A newly created leadership seat with a path to grow
• Direct mentorship from the owner
• 3 paid hours per week for professional development
• A team that values structure, systems, and accountability
• The base salary range for this full‑time role is $70,000 to $85,000 per year, commensurate with experience. In addition to base pay, we offer bonuses tied to new‑student enrollments, program upgrades (Black Belt Club & Leadership Team). Successful team members typically earn total compensation of $90,000 to $110,000+ when targets are met or exceeded.
• This is a full-time, on-site leadership role with a structured but non-traditional schedule. Our business operates when students and families are available, so evenings and weekends are part of the role.
A typical schedule for this position is:
• Tuesday to Friday: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• Saturday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
We prioritize a consistent 5-day work week with predictable hours, rather than split or constantly changing schedules.
Evenings and one weekend day are a regular part of the role, as these are our highest-impact times for enrollment, student development, and family communication.
Schedules are set in advance and remain stable, with occasional adjustments for events or team needs.
As you grow into a Location Manager role, you’ll have increasing influence over team scheduling and operations.
