Assistant Plant Manager – Lead Operations, Drive Results, Make an Impact
Are You the Operator Who Makes Everything Run?
Our client is a well-established, privately held manufacturer with deep roots in serving the animal nutrition, industrial, and agriculture sectors. They've been doing it for over a century — and they're still growing.
They're not looking for someone to just punch a clock. They need a sharp, hands-on Assistant Plant Manager who thrives in a fast-moving environment, takes ownership of day-to-day operations, and quietly makes sure everything runs the way it should — safely, cleanly, and efficiently.
If you're the kind of person who notices problems before they become crises and builds systems that stick, this role was built for you.
What Success Looks Like in Your First Year
This isn't a list of tasks — it's a picture of what winning looks like:
- Safety programs are airtight. You've trained new hires, completed all required documentation, and collaborated with the safety manager and technical director to prepare for customer audits. Safe Food and Safe Feed compliance is in order, and everything is properly uploaded and organized.
- Supply chain runs smoothly. Diesel fuel, packaging supplies, parts, and housekeeping items are managed without gaps or waste. Vendors are reliable. Costs are controlled.
- Daily reporting is consistent and accurate. The daily production report (DOR) is done every day. Bag inventory is tracked. Customer bag order schedules are managed. Daily tonnage is coordinated with the office manager.
- Weekend schedules are planned and communicated ahead of time. Your team knows what's expected before Friday afternoon, and production doesn't skip a beat.
- Your plant looks like a place people are proud to work. You've built a culture of cleanliness and organization, led workplace inspections, and consistently identified opportunities to improve efficiency.
Who You Are
You don't wait to be told what to do. You see the gap and close it. You bring people along with you instead of pushing them from behind. You think in systems — but you're not afraid to pick up a wrench.
Here's what we're looking for:
- 5+ years of management experience, ideally in a manufacturing or plant environment
- Hands-on technical knowledge — you understand fabrication, electrical systems, PDD blowers, screw augers, belts, airlocks, and air compressors
- A high school diploma at minimum — additional certifications or education are a genuine plus
- Strong problem-solving instincts and the ability to troubleshoot under pressure
- Clear, direct communication skills — with your team, with leadership, and with auditors
- Physical readiness: you can lift up to 50 lbs, work at heights, and navigate confined spaces
- Flexible availability — including Saturdays or off-hours when the job calls for it
What Our Client Offers
Our client takes care of the people who take care of their plant:
- Competitive base salary with an annual bonus incentive
- Health, vision, and dental coverage, plus 3% of annual salary to offset healthcare expenses
- 401(k) retirement plan with 3% safe harbor and up to 12% discretionary match
- Paid vacation
- Life insurance
- Company mobile phone
