ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF FINANCE -TENURE-TRACK
POSITION: The Department of Economics & Finance in the Tobin College of Business, St. John’s University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Finance to start August 2026. A successful applicant will be capable of producing research at top quality journals, while being an effective, empathetic teacher at both the undergraduate and graduate level. In addition to research and teaching, the position requires service and participation at conferences and seminars. Specialties in all areas of finance will be considered but a preference for candidates with a background and interest in teaching Commercial Banking and capital markets classes is preferred. As advancements in technology, specifically AI, have changed the academic landscape, candidates are expected to be able to apply these tools to both their research and teaching.
QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or D.B.A. with specialization in Finance from an AACSB-accredited college of business. ABDs in advanced dissertation stages will be considered but to be hired with tenure-track status, terminal degree in-hand is required by the start date. Industry certifications (such as CFA) are a plus.

DEPARTMENT: The Department of Economics & Finance is a thriving and driven department, with 20 tenure-track/tenured faculty. Our finance faculty was awarded the prestigious WRDS-SSRN Innovation Award honoring Emerging Business Schools for research activities, and the latest (2026) U.S. News & World Report ranks the finance program #45. The department maintains an active seminar series, and our faculty is actively engaged in many conferences, including our annually co-sponsored FMA Applied Finance Conference. The department offers a BS and MS in Finance, MBA concentrations in Finance and FinTech, as well a BS in Economics.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $170,000 - $180,000.
