    Warren Wilson College welcomes applicants for a faculty position in Sculpture. This is an Assistant Professor position in an extended contract system with a 3-3 load beginning in August of 2026.

    We are looking for a sculptor whose teaching and creative practice foster cross-pollination between disciplines. The ideal candidate will cultivate student-driven inquiry within a liberal arts setting and contribute actively to the life of the department and college through service, including mentoring students within the Work Program.

    The position calls for a versatile sculptor and educator whose teaching and creative practice foster collaboration, experimentation, and social engagement within a liberal arts context. We seek an artist whose work and pedagogy are rooted in inquiry; social, conceptual, or material, and who brings cross-cultural perspectives that enrich the diversity and vision of the Art and Craft major and the Creative Arts Department. The ideal candidate will enjoy inspiring students to connect making with meaning, exploring the intersections of material, community, and context.

    Teaching responsibilities include introductory through advanced sculpture, 3D design, foundations, community-engaged courses, and senior capstones, with a 24-credit load per year. Faculty also share responsibility for advising, rotating administrative duties, and maintaining and managing sculpture facilities, materials, and equipment. The successful candidate will bring curiosity, collaboration, and care to their work in both classroom and community, contributing to a creative curriculum grounded in place-based learning, equity, and sustainability.

    The successful candidate will demonstrate a breadth of material knowledge and an enthusiasm to facilitate access to a variety of materials, including wood, metals, mold making, among interdisciplinary approaches to the expanding field of sculpture. The candidate should demonstrate an ability to synthesize material knowledge with conceptual and traditional sculptural practices, and possess a strong understanding of contemporary art, theory, and their connections to broader social, cultural, economic, or scientific contexts.

    Responsibilities

    • Teach 24 credit hours of undergraduate instruction per academic year.
    • Provide academic, career, and internship advising to students.
    • Participate in and contribute to the business of the Creative Arts Department.
    • Contribute to the college's General Education Program, as determined to be appropriate in consultation with the Department Chair.
    • Provide service to the College, and engage in ongoing professional development, scholarly and/or creative activity.
    • Maintain wood and metals studio spaces and equipment.
    • Rotate into the Senior Capstone sequence and mentor upper level students.
    • Oversee and mentor a team of 3D work program students.
    • Develop course curriculum for introductory, intermediate, and advanced sculpture courses in a variety of materials.
    • Develop Community Engaged and First Year Seminar course curriculum.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • MFA in Sculpture or related field.
    • One year of successful teaching experience.
    • Demonstrated experience advancing a learning environment that is conducive to all students. For instance, experience incorporating inclusive teaching modalities, selection of course content, subject matter experts and working with diverse student populations.
    • Proficiency with materials and processes related to the field of sculpture, including wood and metal.
    • Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
    • Maintains an active exhibition record and art practice.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Two or more years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level
      • Course development and/or work beyond graduate assistantship preferred.
    • Studio management experience.
    • Teaching experience in foundational art courses.
    • Demonstrated enthusiasm for catalyzing collaborative community in the classroom, through pedagogical approaches, and/or in creative research.
