We are seeking an experienced Assistant Project Manager with hotel and restaurant construction and renovation experience to join our Torrance-based team. This role supports the Project Manager in overseeing projects from pre-construction through closeout and requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
Assist the Project Manager in managing all phases of construction projects from initiation to completion
Support pre-construction planning, budgeting, and project execution strategies
Coordinate with architects, engineers, subcontractors, inspectors, and other construction professionals
Assist in negotiating and managing contracts with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers
Secure and maintain necessary permits and licenses
Ensure jobsite compliance with building codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
Assist in scheduling key deliverables and milestones and monitor progress against the project schedule
Support cost tracking, budgeting, forecasting, and basic cost estimating efforts
Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and outside contractors to ensure timely performance
Manage and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, and other project documentation
Maintain accurate project logs, reports, and electronic document control procedures
Monitor material procurement and deliveries to align with project timelines
Track inspections, testing, and quality control documentation
Participate in project meetings and report on progress, risks, and potential delays
Identify potential project issues and assist in developing mitigation strategies
Support closeout processes, including punch lists and as-built documentation
Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, and project teams
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred
Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in hotel and restaurant construction or renovation projects
Project management certification preferred
Working knowledge of construction management methods and processes
Familiarity with construction contracts, legal requirements, and business practices
Knowledge of construction methods, building materials, and applicable building codes
Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
Ability to break large projects into manageable steps and execute effectively
Ability to travel to project sites as needed
Proximity to the Torrance office for regular in-office work
