Count Your Blessings Preschool is a mission-driven early childhood program dedicated to nurturing the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. We partner closely with families and the community to provide high-quality early learning experiences aligned with New Mexico PreK (NM PreK) and FOCUS standards.
Position Summary
The Assistant NM PreK Teacher supports the Lead NM PreK Teacher in implementing a developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive, and standards-aligned PreK classroom. This role is essential in maintaining a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment that meets New Mexico Early Learning Standards and NM PreK program requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing NM PreK–aligned curriculum and daily activities
Assist with classroom routines, transitions, and supervision of children at all times
Foster positive relationships with children through nurturing, responsive interactions
Support ongoing child observations, documentation, and assessment as directed
Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment
Implement guidance strategies that promote social-emotional development and positive behavior
Assist with meal times, rest periods, and outdoor play in compliance with licensing and NM PreK requirements
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
Participate in required trainings, staff meetings, and professional development
Support inclusive practices for children with diverse needs and backgrounds
Required Qualifications (Aligned with NM PreK Assistant Teacher Standards)
Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or GED and
Current Child Development Certificate (CDC) or willingness to obtain within required NM PreK timelines
Meets NM PreK Assistant Teacher qualifications as defined by the New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department (ECECD)
Ability to pass state and federal background checks
Current CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
Ability to meet physical demands of an early childhood classroom (lifting up to 40 lbs, floor work, extended standing)
Preferred Qualifications
Child Development Associate (CDA) credential
Coursework in Early Childhood Education or Child Development
Experience working in a PreK or licensed early childhood setting
Familiarity with NM Early Learning Standards and developmentally appropriate practice
Knowledge, Skills, and Dispositions
Warm, patient, and dependable
Strong teamwork and communication skills
Commitment to high-quality early childhood education
Willingness to learn, grow, and participate in coaching and reflective practice
