    SUMMARY

    Midland Federal Savings & Loan Association is seeking an Assistant Controller to support the Controller across accounting, reporting, and regulatory functions. As a community bank, the accounting department covers a wide range of responsibilities, and this role touches several of them and operations. The position suits an experienced community bank professional who is comfortable working hands-on across loan accounting, general ledger reconciliation, liquidity and interest rate risk reporting, investment accounting, audit support, management reporting and operations.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Mortgage Loan Accounting

    • Record revenue recognition for each loan, including gain on sale, fees, and related items, in accordance with established policy.

    • Reconcile loan-level funding worksheets to the general ledger each month, loan by loan.

    • Research and resolve discrepancies and escalate non-standard transactions to the Controller before booking.

    2. General Ledger Reconciliation and Month-End Close

    • Prepare assigned general ledger account reconciliations and supporting schedules.

    • Maintain fixed asset schedules, including additions, disposals, and depreciation.

    • Prepare recurring close entries and supporting documentation for Controller review.

    • Investigate and clear reconciling items on a timely basis.

    3. Asset / Liability Management, Liquidity, and Interest Rate Risk

    • Prepare monthly and quarterly ALCO reporting, including liquidity analysis, stress testing, capital stress testing, financial ratios, trend and variance reporting, and large depositor monitoring.

    • Monitor the bank's daily liquidity and cash position and report on funding needs.

    • Prepare interest rate risk modeling and reporting.

    • Serve as the primary contact for the third-party ALM model provider and for model validation reviews.

    4. Investment Portfolio Accounting

    • Reconcile the investment portfolio to third-party portfolio accounting reports each month.

    • Prepare monthly investment accounting entries, including amortization, accretion, and income accruals, for Controller review.

    • Support the analysis and monitoring of fixed income holdings.

    5. Audit and Regulatory Support

    • Coordinate and prepare documentation for internal audits, the external financial statement audit, and regulatory examinations.

    • Prepare requested schedules and workpapers, and track open items through resolution.

    • Assist with updates to accounting and finance policies and procedures.

    6. Budget, Forecasting, and Management Reporting

    • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and periodic forecast updates.

    • Prepare variance and trend analysis for management.

    • Prepare recurring reporting packages for management, ALCO, and the Board of Directors.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • 10 or more years of experience in a community bank finance, accounting, or treasury function.

    • Hands-on experience with general ledger reconciliation, investment accounting, and fixed assets.

    • Experience preparing ALCO and board-level reporting, including liquidity and interest rate risk analysis.

    • Experience supporting internal audits, external audits, and regulatory examinations.

    • Loan operations or loan servicing background preferred.

    • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certification a plus.
