    Leigh & Dougherty Family Law is seeking an Associate Attorney to join our growing family law practice. For over a decade, our firm has handled complex family law matters throughout New Mexico with a reputation for thoughtful, strategic advocacy that helps clients move forward. This role is ideal for an attorney who is comfortable managing their own cases, communicating directly with clients, and appearing in court. You will be trusted to exercise sound judgment, handle responsibility independently, and collaborate with the team when needed—without micromanagement. Compensation • Base Salary: $130,000 • Paid time off • Performance-based bonus Responsibilities: • Manage a caseload of family law matters with increasing independence • Conduct client consultations, develop case strategies, and set clear expectations • Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, discovery, and related legal documents • Prepare clients for mediation, hearings, and court appearances • Represent clients in court with professionalism and confidence • Analyze opposing counsel's filings and develop strategic responses • Negotiate settlements and prepare settlement agreements when appropriate • Work closely with paralegals and staff to manage deadlines, delegate tasks, and maintain efficient case progress • Manage workload, track time or production accurately, and uphold the firm’s professional and ethical standards Qualifications: • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school • Licensed and in good standing with the New Mexico Bar (or ability to become licensed promptly) • 2–5 years of legal experience preferred (family law experience is a plus, but not required) • Prior experience speaking with clients, filing pleadings, and appearing in court • Emotionally steady, professional, and resilient under pressure • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently Compensation: $130,000 yearly
