  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    The Associate General Counsel - Real Estate will provide legal counsel and strategic guidance on matters related to real estate transactions, property management, leasing, development, and regulatory compliance. This role supports cross-functional teams including construction, facilities, and finance, ensuring legal consistency and risk mitigation across all real estate activities.

    1. Draft, review, and negotiate real estate contracts, lease agreements, purchase and sale agreements, easements, and related documents.
    2. Advise internal stakeholders on property acquisitions, dispositions, and development projects.
    3. Manage legal aspects of third-party leased properties, including joint ventures, tenant relations, and employee housing.
    4. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local real estate laws and regulations.
    5. Resolve disputes related to property use, zoning, title, and landlord-tenant issues.
    6. Collaborate with construction and environmental teams on site development and land use matters.
    7. Prepare real estate documentation and correspondence.
    8. Assist with policy development related to real estate lifecycle management.
    9. Assist in resolving pre-litigation disputes related to real estate.
    10. Supervise paralegals and contract administrators in preparing contracts, correspondence, revisions to documents and policies.
    11. Model behaviors that support the company’s common purpose; Showing people they matter at every turn.
    12. Ensure all activities are in compliance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
    13. Assist in management of third party leased property, including joint ventures, restaurants or other facility revenue generating tenants.
    14. Provide support for other areas of the legal department as needed.
    15. Complete other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited college or university, required.
    • License to practice law in the state of Tennessee or registration with the Tennessee Board of Law Examiners if not licensed in the state of Tennessee.
    • Minimum five+ years prior real estate experience working in a law firm or other corporate legal setting is required.

    Specialized Knowledge

    • Knowledge of general business and contract law with emphasis on real estate required. Background in the energy space is a plus.
    • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills.

    Additional Information

    • Travel required less than 10%.
