    Job Purpose:

    Works with underwriters carrying out assigned tasks in the efficient and profitable placement of assigned business. Reviews with knowledge and judgment insurance risks and refers to underwriters those transactions that require their attention. Complete transactions directly if within delegated authority under the supervision and guidance of the Underwriting Manager. Provides timely and professional customer service to underwriters and agents to facilitate the processing of business. Respectfully responds to questions from underwriters, agents and carriers.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    · Compute rates and premiums for new and renewal business, and/or as requested by underwriters

    · Utilize automated systems to research information and process business

    · Process binders, assign policy numbers, and request documents required for binding renewal

    · Follow agency workflow and procedural guidelines and customer service standards

    · Assist agents with comments or questions about applications and the likelihood of acceptance by the company

    · Handle general correspondence from agents

    · Review requests for cancellation, endorsements, etc., and process those within authority

    · Process premium audits

    · Recognize when to involve the Customer Relationship Manager

    · Request additional documentation necessary for the processing of an application, endorsement or cancellation

    · Provide backup assistance in the underwriter’s absence to maintain workflows

    · Provide backup to Underwriting Assistants in employees’ absence or during heavy workloads

    · Maintain strong relationships with carriers and underwriters

    · Assist agents with billing and payment questions

    · Support cross-selling initiatives in place by the agency

    · Send an inspection recommendation letter and follow-up for completion

    · Assist in training policy services, including both new and existing employees

    · Responds promptly to projects and special requests

    · Performs other duties as assigned

    Skills & Qualifications:

    · High school graduate, college-level courses with an emphasis on business studies helpful, professional insurance-related certifications, or courses or professional designations beneficial

    · Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong computer skills

    · Strong analytical skills and the ability to pay attention to details. Ability to gather and organize information and provide recommendations to the underwriter

    · Basic understanding of standard underwriting practices and procedures

    · Knowledge of underwriting classifications, forms, procedures, and regulations

    · Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted underwriting practices
