    Associate Underwriter

    Upland Capital Group, Inc. is an AM Best rated “A-” VIII specialty property/casualty insurer headquartered in Dallas, Texas. Through its wholly owned insurance carrier, Upland Specialty Insurance Company, the company markets, underwrites and services specialty insurance products in select markets to include excess transportation, construction casualty, excess casualty, primary general liability, excess public entity, professional liability errors and omissions as well as excess cyber liability.

    As an Excess and Surplus (E &S) carrier, we face unique and interesting challenges every day. We are seeking an Associate Underwriter to join our amazing team.

    Primary Function:

    The role of an Associate Underwriter is to assist with day-to-day functions of the Underwriting operation. As the Associate Underwriter gains experience, they will become responsible for underwriting renewal and new policies in compliance with established underwriting guidelines.

    This is full time in our Dallas office.

    ** Duties and Responsibilities:**

    • Daily review and triage of submissions including total submission review for complete and accurate information, declination communications, and initial quote support for underwriters ensuring timely and consistent communication.
    • Communicate with brokers to document and procure accurate risk information as it relates to exposures, loss experience, terms, conditions and pricing.
    • Assist in the maintenance of underwriting files and exposure documentation.
    • Works with direct guidance from Senior Underwriting staff to ensure accuracy with quoting and correspondence.
    • Follow all applicable underwriting guidelines as noted within underwriting manuals and policies.
    • Follow all defined internal processes related to quoting, binding, endorsement and renewal solicitations.
    • Collaborate with senior staff members to participate in marketing efforts.
    • Perform tasks as assigned by leadership.
    • Pursuing continuing education through WSIA conferences, IRMI related designations such as CRIS or AFIS, or The Institutes designations ARM and CPCU.

    Experience, Education, Special Skills Required:

    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • Team player with ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
    • Knowledgeable in insurance terminology and processes
    • Competent and effective negotiation skills
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Must be able to analyze data needed in making business decisions and build strong business cases
    • Must be able to prioritize work based on level of urgency
    • Ability to travel 5-10% of time to corporate office and broker sites

    Disclosures:

    Pay Estimate: $55,000 - $85,000

    Other compensation: annual incentive program
