    Astrobotic Technology, Inc. is a space robotics company that seeks to make space accessible to the world. The company’s suite of lunar landers delivers payloads to the Moon for companies, governments, universities, non-profits, and individuals. The company is also developing advanced space robotics capabilities such as terrain relative navigation, mobile robotics for lunar surface operations, and reliable computing systems for mission-critical applications. Originally spun out of Carnegie Mellon University in 2007, Astrobotic is pioneering affordable planetary access that promises to spark a new era of exploration, science, tourism, resource utilization, and mining. Astrobotic is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

    Astrobotic’s Landers & Spacecraft group is seeking a fulltime intern for the Summer 2024 term. This temporary position is expected to last 6 months.

    Responsibilities may include:

    • Building and testing of fabricated PCBs or integrated avionics systems.
    • Work closely with board designers and I&T engineers to develop test procedures
    • Developing test scripts or simulations for testing integrated systems.
    • Designing and building assembly and/or test support equipment such as test fixtures, alignment tools and system mock-ups.
    • Executing test procedures for evaluating spacecraft electrical components, subsystems, and/or full-scale systems.
    • Working hands-on in electronic lab environments and clean rooms to prepare, clean, assemble, and test spacecraft systems.
    • Writing documentation (including integration plans/procedures, test results, and user’s guides) to plan and describe work.

    Required skills:

    • Basic understanding and experience with oscilloscopes, DC power supplies, and multimeters.
    • Fundamental knowledge of electrical engineering, circuit design theory, and experience with custom electrical assemblies.
    • Experience with technical writing, documentation, and planning.
    • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings and models.
    • Understanding of data acquisition and collection concepts.
    • Demonstrated attention to detail and capable working in a team environment.

    Preferred skills:

    • Technical writing experience such as assembly instructions, test procedures and technical reports and presentations.
    • Experience in electronic design and troubleshooting.
    • Experience coding test scripts in Python.
    • Experience completing test setups and executing test campaigns successfully.
    • Experience with building cables, wire stripping and crimping, and soldering.

    To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

    Applicants must be based in Pittsburgh, PA or willing to relocate.
