    Astrobotic Technology is seeking a Chief Engineer to support the technical development, testing, and operation of the company’s lunar-based space systems. Astrobotic Technology wants you to bring your substantial spacecraft expertise to guide the engineering team through the development lifecycle using sound engineering principles and standards.

    This position will be a technical lead and a source of technical guidance to the systems and subsystem engineering teams. This position reports to the company’s Landers and Spacecraft department.

    An ideal candidate for this role would be capable of guiding a program’s engineering team and being a direct interface with key external customers and partners.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Guiding the design, development, and testing for a lunar-based system, including the concept of operations, mission and system requirements, design configuration, technical budgets, launch vehicle requirements, fault management, interface control, V&V and test planning, and technical risk and mitigation plan identification, through the entire life cycle of the program.
    • Support system concept development, system architecture development, system and subsystem requirements development, systems analysis and trade studies, and systems modeling and simulation.
    • Coordinate cross-functional teams and lead cross functional team meetings to ensure engineering solutions comply with mission needs.
    • Assess technical risks to the program at the system and subsystem level and report these risks to management along with recommended mitigations.
    • Provide technical guidance and direction to the system and subsystem engineering teams.
    • Work side-by-side with the engineering team, program management, and key partners and customers.
    • Participate in internal and vendor milestone reviews.
    • Serve as a primary technical point of contact between the program partners.
    • Prepare and deliver technical documentation and reports.
    • Lead technical presentations and/or demonstrations.
    • Communicate with multiple engineering disciplines, partners, and customers to resolve technical risks and challenges.

    Required Skills & Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated experience in multiple of the following areas: systems engineering, structure/thermal design and analysis, avionics systems, power systems, propulsion system, communication systems, flight software, fault management, reliability, S&MA, trajectory analysis, launch vehicle constraints, and risk management.
    • Demonstrated experience as the technical lead implementing the full life cycle of design, development, manufacturing, testing, and operations.
    • Strong understanding of the space and launch vehicle mission environments.
    • Demonstrated experience interfacing with internal and external organizations.
    • Demonstrated experience operating in an AS9100 or ISO9000 environment.
    • B.S. in Engineering or related technical field plus 15 years of relevant space mission experience (at least 5 years in a leadership role). Relevant advanced degree will be considered in lieu of equivalent experience.

    Desired Skills & Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated developing space systems, from feasibility studies through flight and mission operations. including direct, hands-on experience with space system integration and testing, including cleanroom operations.
    • Demonstrated experience with human-rated space systems.
    • Demonstrated experience developing process plans in support of development, manufacturing, or operations.
    • Demonstrated experience working in an agile environment, using organizational tools such as Confluence and Jira.
    • Experience with requirements management tools such as JAMA.
    • Knowledgeable of system V&V planning.
    • Knowledgeable of reliability engineering and analysis.
    • Knowledgeable of range safety compliance.

    The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position. The actual base salary offered for this position will depend on numerous factors including individual performance, business objectives, and the candidates professional experience. Base salary is just one component of Astrobotic’s competitive total rewards strategy.
