    Astrobotic Technology, Inc. is a space robotics company that seeks to make space accessible to the world. The company’s suite of lunar landers delivers payloads to the Moon for companies, governments, universities, non-profits, and individuals. The company is also developing advanced space robotics capabilities such as terrain relative navigation, mobile robotics for lunar surface operations, and reliable computing systems for mission-critical applications. Originally spun out of Carnegie Mellon University in 2007, Astrobotic is pioneering affordable planetary access that promises to spark a new era of exploration, science, tourism, resource utilization, and mining. Astrobotic’s headquarters is in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with a second location in Mojave, California.

    Astrobotic wants you to join the Landers & Spacecraft (L&S) Advanced Programs (AP) team which is responsible for leading efforts around research & development (R&D), and bid & proposals (B&P), and the chief engineer’s (CE) office. The team's focal efforts to architect new landers and spacecraft. The team investigates increasing technology readiness levels (TRL) of components, sub-assemblies, and/or systems. You will internally communicate with other ADP team members, L&S sub-systems, and other Astrobotic departments. You will externally communicate with customers, partners, and suppliers.

    This internship is a 6-month rotation from January 2024 - June 2024.

    ** Job Responsibilities:**

    • Support one or more of the following subsystems, depending on candidate’s experience and business needs:
      • Propulsion
      • Thermal
      • Structures
      • Mechanisms
    • Design mechanical components in CAD (SolidWorks experience preferred)
    • Analyzing performance of components and/or systems (FEA, CFD, etc.)
    • Develop trade studies to support technical, business, and/or programmatic actions and decisions
    • Support the development of technical proposals for R&D or mission opportunities
    • Communicate with multiple engineering disciplines, partners, customers, and vendors to resolve technical risks and challenges

    ** Required Skills & Qualifications:**

    • Currently enrolled in a degree program in Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Engineering, or similar related fields
    • Available for full time work for the duration of the internship / co-op
    • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills and able to self-start with minimal guidance
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing needs and requirements

    ** Desired Skills & Qualifications:**

    • Previous internship experience on spacecraft, launch vehicles, aircraft, or rotorcraft
    • Experience on an academic or industry team competition (AIAA, NAR, ASME, SAE, etc.)
    • Proficiency in one or more of the following analysis software packages: ANSYS, Fluent, Thermal Desktop, Easy5, or Amesim
    • Understanding of environmental testing: such as vibration, acoustic, and/or thermal
    • Hands-on building or testing experience

    *The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position. The actual base salary offered for this position will depend on numerous factors including individual performance, business objectives, and the candidates professional experience. Base salary is just one component of Astrobotic’s competitive total rewards strategy.
