  • Responsibilities

    Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is seeking a Heavy Equipment Shop Technician on 1st shift at our Sterling, Virginia location.  This position is responsible for diagnosing problems, performing repairs, reconditioning and servicing heavy equipment and components in a shop environment.  Seeking candidates with previous Caterpillar or related heavy equipment service experience, military diesel experience or completion of a diesel school program.  

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Self-starter able to work with limited supervision.
    • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills; able to accurately diagnose and repair equipment.
    • Proficient in the use of a computer, Microsoft Office products and service software required in position; able to complete service reports and provide pertinent details for work orders.
    • Candidates should possess excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to write service reports that accurately document diagnosis and repairs performed.  Must prepare required documentation including work orders, parts lists, and time cards in an accurate and timely manner.
    • Able to read and understand operating manuals.
    • Able to work overtime as required by job and customer demand.

     

     Must meet physical requirements for the job, including the ability to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 70 pounds, including bulky objects.  This position requires repeated reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending and climbing beside, onto and under a variety of heavy equipment.

    Required Skills Required Experience

  • Qualifications
    • Create and execute an engineering departmental strategy aligned with the Kearfott growth vision.
    • Manage a team of seasoned managers that are subject matter experts in the inertial navigation fields.
    • Allocate resources to Programs in conjunction with the Director of Programs and manage quality and delivery of critical engineering program deliverables.
    • Build and/or develop the engineering team to support planned growth.
    • Work in harmony with the Sales and Marketing team and Product Line Managers in support of product line developments, both IRAD and customer funded.
    • Understand federal government contracting, ITAR and licensing, TINA, and other relevant regulatory issues at a working level and apply them to decision making as appropriate.
    • Have a career built on a solid engineering foundation in inertial navigation and have a passion for engineering unique differentiated solutions for aerospace, defense and critical commercial applications.
    • Possess managerial courage to drive change throughout the department and to other internal customers and suppliers.
    • Understand CMMI, DO-178 and DO-254, and other critical process certifications required in the industry.
    • The DE will be expected to travel 25% to 35% as required to various customer locations both domestic and international.
