Job Description

As an Astronomy Assistant, you’ll ignite curiosity and wonder by assisting the Astronomer in guiding guests through stargazing sessions, telescope demonstrations, and interactive space-themed experiences. With your passion for the cosmos and engaging storytelling, you'll create unforgettable moments that inspire guests of all ages to look up and explore the universe.

• Assist with tours
• Assist in interactive stargazing sessions using telescopes and laser pointers to highlight constellations, planets, and celestial events. Presenting virtual shows and subbing when needed after the training period
• Engage guests of all ages with fun, informative presentations on astronomy topics tailored to various knowledge levels.
• Set up, operate, and maintain telescope and other equipment to ensure optimal viewing experiences.
• Provide excellent guest service by answering questions, ensuring safety, and creating a welcoming, educational atmosphere.

Qualifications

• Must have vehicle operator’s license
• Ability to lift 50 lbs
• Ability to perform job with minimum supervision
• Ability to learn appropriate software for billing and record keeping
• Must have an eagerness to learn about astronomomy
• Able to work holidays and weekends
• Must be outgoing and comfortable with public speaking and high-end customer service
• Be tech-savvy–Windows proficient– and be a strategic problem solver
• Willing to perform general housekeeping duties
• Available for work hours, typically from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm up to four nights a week (late 2nd shift, 15-20 hours per week)
• Customer service oriented and able to provide 5-start service
