    Job Summary

    McNeil Veterinary Services is a unique practice which serves small animals, avians (exotic and poultry), reptiles, pocket pets and occasionally small ruminants and alpaca. Our team delivers personalized and compassionate care in the office and on house calls.

    Our Veterinary Technician will have experience in general medicine and surgery for the species we deal with. This is an ideal position for someone with strong basic skills who is willing to adapt to unusual situations.

    Our Veterinary Technician will strive for results and be able to communicate effectively to the staff as well as a diverse clientele. Since we are a small practice, it is not unusual for all staff to wear many hats from front desk to kennel and general cleaning.

     

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Communicate with clients and send appointment reminders and updates via email, text, and phone.
    • Educate clients through print, email, text, and demonstrations.
    • Filing, pulling charts, invoicing, faxing, copying, creating various reports from the software, answer phone calls, make appointments, prepare medical records for all types of appointments.
    • Admit patients for in-patient or out-patient procedures.
    • Perform technician exams.
    • Prep for surgery, anesthesia, x-ray(digital).
    • Instrument care, pack, and preparation.
    • Maintain all surgical equipment, surgery packs, surgical inventory, and the surgery prep room and surgery suite.
    • Able to collect all lab samples.
    • Prepare lab samples to send out or perform in-house tests.
    • Keep treatment/surgery/exam rooms clean and sanitary.
    • Keep lab equipment well maintained – to include cages are cleaned on all surfaces, counters, refrigerators, bathrooms, floors, and general environment are kept up to standards.
    • Keep stock of retail inventory in the lobby.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Required Skills and Experience:

    • Certification of Veterinary Technician program graduate in California.
    • At least 1 year of veterinary technician experience.
    • Excellent organizational skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Experience with fear-free and careful monitoring of body language. (Trained to ensure animal comfortable and unafraid prior to performing any services)
    • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
    • Ability to work with others to lift and restrain larger animals that weigh between 100-150 lbs.
    • Ability to stand and walk for 8 hours
    • Ability to bend and grip securely.
    • Ability to stoop for 1-2 hours.
    • Ability to carry up to 50 lbs.
