    Job Description

    WHO WE ARE:

    The Atlanta Community Food Bank is working to end hunger in our community with the food, people and big ideas needed so that no one worries where their next meal is coming from. Since 1979, we’ve been providing food for a growing network of nonprofit partners – including food pantries, community kitchens, childcare centers, night shelters and senior centers. We currently serve more than 700 partners in 29 counties across metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

    ABOUT THE ROLE:

    The Procurement Specialist is charged with acquiring new food sources via donations and purchasing and cultivating relationships in the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s 29 county service area. The Procurement Specialist collaborates with the Procurement Manager and then executes on plans to reach annual product poundage goals both locally and nationally. The successful individual will also work with other team members to acquire other food sourcing opportunities. The Procurement Specialist reports to the Procurement Manager.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO:

    FOOD PROCUREMENT AND PRODUCT COORDINATION

    • Aggressively pursue new food donors and vendors through all channels available in the local arena to garner inventory i.e... Manufacturing, Distributing, Retail Prospects etc.
    • Collect appropriate food industry information and maintain an awareness of best practices in food banking, sourcing, and purchasing.
    • Meet monthly donation goals and purchasing budgets established by the Food Procurement Manager for the team.
    • Organize large- and small-scale food donations such as Gleans and Food Shows
    • Purchase quality products:
      • Acquire products at competitive prices
      • Balance purchases between 3 budgets for multiple fiscal calendars
      • Drive inventory turns
    • Coordinate donated and purchased product through some of the following actions:
      • Maintain and update vendor profiles
      • Collect necessary information (quantity, cost, packing method, etc...) to write purchase orders
      • Plan delivery dates, schedule, and track shipments
      • Respond and resolve any receiving or quality issues with the products
      • Maintain system accuracy for donated and purchased products
      • Perform daily communication with donors and vendors regarding orders and opportunities.

    Builds and Nurtures Relationships

    • Identify and retain local donors and vendors to form strategic partnerships with the Food Bank
    • Maintain and cultivate relationships with Feeding America, major donors and key vendors
    • Work collaboratively with internal teams ( Warehouse Staff / Partner Relations, Compliance and Customer Relations) to ensure the seamless receipt and distribution of food . Keep open lines of communication internally regarding any product changes.
    • Research and find new vendors and food sourcing organizations
    • Attend professional trade organizations within the food industry

    Planning and Coordination

    • Balance donations and purchases, through all channels, against current inventory ensuring the products can service the distribution plans
    • Implement food sourcing tactics for new and lapsed donors so that we have a consistent flow of desired products
    • Actively seek new opportunities in the region and innovatively approach the market

    WHAT YOU’LL NEED: SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE YOUR RESUME SHOULD DEMONSTRATE:

    • Solid work history of successful results driven sales and/or purchasing and customer service
    • Successful history of building and maintaining relationships; specifically communicating with key accounts both verbally and in writing– prospecting through making the “Ask”
    • A track record for solving problems and/or using data to track performance and/or to make recommendations
    • Negotiation skills including soft skills such as persuasion, planning, and cooperating.
    • Good Computer skills:
      • Excel - proficiency in creating spreadsheets to tell a story and/or to enable decision making
      • PowerPoint – presentation design

    EVEN BETTER IF YOU HAVE:

    • Food Industry or Retail Industry experience
    • Demonstrated experience multi-tasking; completing concurrent tasks efficiently and accurately
