    Job Description

     

    SCOPE, TASKS AND ACTIVITIES:

     

    The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

     

    • Proficient in using Prism to produce POs and process purchase orders with suppliers.

    • Analyzes the reports of various data warehouse searches, specifications for new items, reviews information related to preferred supplier/vendor, and communicates with suppliers and site personnel as needed.

    • Provides back-up support in the Procurement Department.

    • Assists in consolidating reporting requirements for procurement Purchasing management.

    • Maintains close coordination with Production Planning to ensure that adequate quantities of ingredients are available for scheduled production while maintaining the lowest possible inventories.

    • Assists other departments and Requisitioners in the sourcing of materials and problem solving.

    • Assist other departments and Requisitioners in the negotiations and contracting of services and generation of a request for proposal and negotiations.

    • Work closely with Manufacturing, Product Development and Engineering in the procurement of processing equipment; includes the obtaining of quotations from several manufacturers, for the price and terms and conditions; after management review, issues the purchase order.

    • Obtain competitive bids on goods and services with the basis of greatest profitability to the company, commensurate with quality standards, and delivery capabilities.

    • Uses all available sources of market trends that may have an effect on prices and makes recommendations for action

    • Provides back-up to other Buyer roles as needed.

    • Maintains timely control of documents and data to assure accurate retention of records.

    • Member of Supplier Diversity Team to ensure government Minority Subcontracting Plan goals are met.

     

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

    • BS degree in Supply Chain Management or related field desired, OR 10+ years related experience in Procurement.
    • Certification (APICS, CPSM., etc.) desired. Knowledgeable of the purchasing process, vendor relations, lead times for raw materials, and inventory control. Experience in Project Management and working with project teams.
    • Must have the ability to analyze data in bid process and develop recommendations; excellent communications skills both oral and written to communicate clearly and effectively with others to expedite the procurement.

     

    TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

     

    • Language Ability - Ability to read and interpret documents such as vendor quotes, procurement and inventory reports, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
    • Math Ability - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, and percent; calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, percentages, and volume.
    • Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
    • Computer Knowledge - Possess excellent computer skills with a detailed knowledge in Microsoft Platforms (Windows, Windows Explorer, Outlook, Word and Excel) and other inventory systems/databases.
    • Prior knowledge of JD Edwards Purchasing software (Enterprise One software) preferred.
    • Analytical – Demonstrated organization skills, ability to prioritize activities, multi-tasked/follow tasks to completion; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; good organization skills and attention to details; able to make good decisions independently within the scope of responsibility.
    • Teamwork – Contributes to building a positive team spirit.
    • Technical Skills – Excellent computer skills with a detailed knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; ability to use purchasing software, i.e., SAP; good negotiation skills.
    • Customer Service - Responds promptly to customer needs; solicits customer feedback to improve service; responds to requests for service and assistance.
    • Interpersonal – Interfaces with both management and non-management personnel across the company and with third party vendors for procurement activities and data gathering.
    • Written Communication - Presents numerical data effectively. Prepares purcha
