    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    Atom Power is digitizing power technologies to enable smart communication between electrical sources and end use equipment which is essential to our country's clean energy transition.  We are growing fast and need help in procuring top talent to help achieve our objectives in the electrical vehicle charging and residential energy automation markets.  The Firmware QA Engineer Intern is a  key role responsible for supporting the engineering team by providing test automation capabilities for the Atom Switch, the world's first UL-listed solid state circuit breaker.

    We are looking to expand our team with a Firmware Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer Intern who will be working to automate qualification of our Atom Switch for EV charging applications.  We are seeking a candidate who has at least 1 year of Python development experience and a desire to learn firmware qualification methodologies.  Primary responsibilities will include design, development, documentation, and verification of test automation capabilities.  This is an individual contributor position that will require in depth technical knowledge and cross pollination of multiple engineering principles.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Design, develop and qualify test automation solutions for the Atom Switch
    • Translate test cases to Python scripts, integrating test and communications equipment to perform closed-loop qualification tests
    • Work with hardware and firmware teams to automate tests of existing features as well as new features, enabling unit, integration, and system testing
    • Develop and execute product qualification plans

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (CS), Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Engineering (CE), or equivalent, as a Junior or Senior
    • Desire to focus on qualification of embedded systems
    • Proficient in ground-up development of Python
    • Experience with power supplies, function generators, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers
    • Experience in developing and debugging firmware including an understanding of how it relates to hardware 
    • Detailed understanding of analog and digital circuits 
    • Familiar with communication protocols including RS-232, RS-485, CAN, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, USB, UART, etc
    • High initiative, self-starter, inquisitive, “can-do” attitude

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Pursuing advanced degree in Computer Science (CS), Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Engineering (CE), or equivalent
    • 3 years of relevant engineering experience in the design and analysis of real-time embedded firmware designs with low power, mixed signal processors in embedded C/C++
    • Proficiency with developing scripting and automations tools (Python)
    • Knowledge of single and three phase power systems and power distribution, electrical machinery and power electronics
    • Experience designing or testing firmware for safety critical applications in a regulated industry
