Out Magazine, the leading authority for LGBTQ+ entertainment, lifestyle and culture news, is seeking a dynamic Audience Editor to lead our daily social presence, audience growth, and community engagement across all platforms. This role sits at the heart of how we reach, inform, and uplift queer audiences.
Reporting to the VP Audience & Digital Marketing, the ideal candidate pairs editorial instincts with platform fluency, knows how to translate breaking news and long-form storytelling into engaging social content, and has a proven track record of growing communities with intentionality. They're plugged into LGBTQ+ culture, advocacy, and online discourse, and understand how audience strategy can amplify our mission.
Seeking candidates in NYC and Los Angeles, position is fully remote.
Primary Responsibilities
- Write, schedule, and optimize daily posts across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X/Twitter, and emerging platforms like Threads, Bluesky and Reddit
- Translate Out's journalism into compelling social formats that drive engagement, community trust, and traffic
- Produce Out's daily flagship newsletter
- Assist with producing social video from concept to publish, collaborating with Out's editorial stakeholders and Video Lead
- Collaborate with editors on rollout plans for tentpoles, covers and special editorial packages
- Pitch social-first storytelling ideas that extend our reporting and mission
- Monitor LGBTQ+ news cycles and analytics to identify storytelling opportunities on and off platform
- Build creative assets for various social platforms when necessary
- Develop social calendars aligned with editorial plans, major cultural events, tentpoles, and sponsored campaigns
- Ensure talent, partners, and contributors are amplified appropriately across channels
Requirements
- Demonstrated success growing social media and building community engagement for a newsroom or media publisher
- Strong editorial judgment and writing skills
- Fluency in social video formats and editing video for social media; Must be open to appearing on camera
- Familiarity with analytics tools and ability to translate insights into strategy
- Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable juggling multiple deadlines
- Self-starting, positive collaborator with a solutions-oriented mindset
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends as needed
