    Job Description

    Aurora Housing Authority’s Housing Development Internship Program (HDIP) is a two to three -month paid internship designed to expose interns to a variety of career opportunities within the affordable housing industry and provide opportunities for learning new job skills or improving existing skillsets in a specific technical area.

    HDIP aims to provide a foundation and exposure to the affordable housing development sector, specifically: land acquisition, building design and function, financing sources and models, development timelines, oversight of design and construction firms, preparation for building occupancy, and marketing lease-up of a multifamily residential building.

    The HDIP Intern will:

    1. Attend meetings for various Development department projects to learn about project phases.
    2. Assist with tasks from Development department projects, such as compiling information, attending neighborhood meetings, developing communication & marketing materials.
    3. Complete training sessions regarding AHA’s purpose, policies, and the overall housing development process.
    4. Meet with Development department staff to debrief training materials and project observations.
    5. Attend stakeholder meetings and planning sessions.
    6. Complete research project(s) with reliable sources and accurate data in one or more of the following areas: Adaptive Reuse, AHA Building Portfolio Summary, Energy Efficiency, Housing Innovation, or Manufactured Housing Cost Savings.
    7. Conduct regular assessments to identify progress toward the goals specified for research project(s) and report these updates to the Director of Development.
    8. Attend and participate in weekly team meetings and monthly all staff lunches.
    9. Interface effectively and professionally with other AHA staff and community members.
    10. Maintain appropriate paperwork and documentation for research project discoveries.
    11. Complete other duties as assigned.
    12. Optional/Potential: Attend the Housing Colorado Conference in Keystone, CO (October 2024).

    Qualifications

    Strong curiosity to learn more about affordable housing needs and a desire to be part of the solution to meet these needs.

    Authentic respect for the mission of the Aurora Housing Authority and the diverse clients, communities, industry partners, staff, and leadership who engage with it.

    Enrollment in undergraduate or graduate degree program. Certification/degree completion in a related field such as Community Planning, Finance, Architecture, or Real Estate is a bonus.

    Demonstrated research abilities.

    Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

    Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word, Power Point, and Outlook.

    Ability to switch from project to project throughout the workday.

    Excellent organizational, time management, communication and interpersonal skills required.

    Strong internal drive to deliver on expectations while maintaining quality, accuracy, confidentiality, stewardship, and collegiality.

    Cooperate and communicate well with other team members.

    Openness to give, receive, and apply healthy and respectful feedback.

    Trustworthiness for access to files and keys to the main office and AHA assets and properties.

    Ability to perform job duties as assigned.

    Ability to work in an environment that honors and respects diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    Additional Information

    Conditions of employment:

    Valid Colorado Driver License and proof of Insurance due to necessary travel amongst various local properties.
