Job Description
Austin Jewish Academy seeks an exceptional middle school STEM teacher for August 2022. We are searching for a special person, one who wants a school to invest in you as you invest in our middle school program. AJA boasts a progressive approach to pedagogy, small class sizes, and an emphasis on social-emotional learning. An independent school in northwest Austin, our program centers inquiry-based and project-based learning. Experiential learning is fundamental to our teachers' approach.
The ideal candidate approaches education in innovative, organized, high-energy, and enthusiastic ways. The teacher will be expected to implement a project-based learning program that brings experiential, hands-on learning in the core subject areas of science and engineering. The role is also one that coordinates the tending to our greenhouse and chicken coop. A commitment to partnering with the rest of the teaching team is required to support both the scholastic and social-emotional development as well as diverse learning profiles of all students. Teamwork is simply crucial in such a small environment.
PREFERRED CANDIDATES WILL HAVE STABLE PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE, A PASSION FOR INNOVATIVE EDUCATION AND SOCIAL JUSTICE INITIATIVES, AND AN EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION STYLE. AJA is a pluralistic community Jewish day school, and we welcome students, faculty, and staff from a diversity of Jewish, religious, and non-religious backgrounds. This position is eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as paid-time off and the potential for retirement and health savings accounts.
