    **Venture Laboratory Consultant/Scientific Liaison **

    Administrative Structure

    The individual is a consultant/scientific liaison in the St. John’s University Venture Clinical Laboratory and will report to the Senior Vice Provost and work with the SJU Venture Laboratory Director.

    Position Overview

    St. John’s University researchers work to discover and bring life-changing discoveries and medicines to those who need them, improve the understanding and management of disease. We are looking for people who are determined to make life better for people around the world and support the mission of the University. We are looking for individuals who wish to make a significant difference tackling neurodegenerative diseases, a grave epidemic, and impending public health problems. This is the first technology that the St. John’s University Venture Laboratory is taking from biomarker-enabled drug research, ranging from early research to the translation to patients to a widely available approved clinical test. You will be joining the innovation technology transfer team. We are seeking an ambitious individual with strong research, clinical test development, and communication skills to contribute to high visible research projects. Your work will contribute to the development of disease state- and disease progression-biomarkers by utilizing quantitative assays based on innovative technology in preclinical and clinical samples.

    In this role, you will:

    • Lead in the assay development and submission of a New York State Laboratory Developed Test (LDT).
    • Lead the clinical development process by taking patented disease-validated biomarkers to aid diagnosis and treatment using multi-omics approaches.
    • Be part of a larger effort moving these tests through commercial validation of disease state- and disease progression-biomarkers and explore the development and validation of protein- and lipid-based assays for clinical interrogation.
    • Work in a highly collaborative environment and actively contribute to the cross-functional teams.
    • Identify areas of key need across clinical development and champion creative solutions to address those needs.

    Responsibilities

    • Contribute to the development of disease state- and disease progression-biomarkers by utilizing quantitative assays based on cutting-edge technology in preclinical and clinical samples
    • Lead the effort for clinical test approval via the New York State LDT process.
    • Lead in document preparation and submissions to the New York State Wadsworth Center
    • Be part of a larger effort to identify disease state- and disease progression-biomarkers and explore the development and validation of assays for clinical interrogation
    • Collaborate with and contribute to the cross-functional teams including business and product development
    • Identify areas of key need across clinical development and champion creative solutions to address those needs
    • Maintain external awareness and learning to benefit the organization
    • Present findings at conferences and publish in high quality peer-reviewed journals
    • Present and communicate study results to the project teams

    Qualifications

    • 5 years' experience in clinical laboratory test development
    • PhD in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, or a related field
    • Demonstrated ability to critically evaluate data and to think creatively about experimental and clinical test design
    • Experience with working in an interdisciplinary team of scientists in a highly collaborative environment is valuable
    • Track record of scientific accomplishments, as indicated by peer-reviewed publications and presentations/ field of interest / qualifications if applicable
    • Self-directed and highly motivated individual who wants to learn new techniques while continually pursuing research and publication goals
    • Excellent communicator (oral and written) with presentation experience along with a strong publication record
    • Proficient in data analysis and reporting
    • Excellent people skills with the ability to efficiently interface with multiple groups including clinical operations and data sciences

    Preferred qualifications

    • PhD in Clinical Neuroscience
    • Strong data management and statistics background desirable, including informatics platforms such as R and Python
    • Experience in technology transfer and clinical test development

    In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $152,600 - $169,300. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

    This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
