Job Description Summary:
The Automation Technician ensures all automated equipment operates efficiently and safely. This role is responsible for identifying and resolving equipment issues, stopping production when necessary, and performing troubleshooting and repairs. Strong knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, and PLCs is required. All work must be performed in accordance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
GENERAL
The duties and responsibilities of this position shall consist of, but not be limited to, the following:
Set up lines and load machines properly
• Operate auto-palletizers and hand jacks
• Ensure carton machines, case erectors, and robotic arms operate effectively
• Follow GMPs, HACCP, and company SOPs
• Perform start-up checks to verify equipment readiness
• Complete documentation for code dates, labels, film, and product changes
• Install, move, and maintain machinery as needed
• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on production equipment
• Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and PLC-based issues
• Monitor workflow and optimize machine efficiencies
• Ensure product meets specifications and is properly labeled
• Minimize rework and waste
• Maintain accurate records of production and materials
• Recommend improvements to enhance equipment and process reliability
• Perform other duties as assigned based on operational needs
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Some college or technical coursework
• 1 year of experience in a production or distribution environment
• 1 year of training experience or equivalent education/experience
• ASRS (Automated Storage and Retrieval System) experience
Strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
• Proficient math and basic accounting skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet navigation
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Professional communication with all levels of the organization
• Effective leadership, problem-solving, facilitation, and coaching skills
Additional Information
The starting rate for this role is $27.46 - $34.33(Hourly). Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, and candidate skill set and experience. Base pay is just one component of Jack Link’s Total Rewards package for Team Members. Other rewards may include annual incentive and program-specific awards. While performing the duties of this job the Team Member will be required to wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (i.e beard/hairnet, ear plugs, frock, boots, etc), stand for extended periods of time, and use hands/arms to push, pull, reach and occasionally lift above head. The Team Member must occasionally lift, push, pull up to 25 pounds and 50 pounds infrequently. Team Members are requested to visually inspect equipment and/or product.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a Team Member encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is a plant setting with wet/slippery floors, varying degrees of temperatures with an average temperature of 40 degrees in the production area. Team Members will be exposed to raw and/or cooked meat products and moving equipment and will be required to follow all Food Safety Quality requirements.
