    An Automation Engineering Manager is needed for the Phoenix branch of an established Controls Systems Integration firm. The Automation Engineering Manager is responsible for the leadership, direction and planning of the automation group. This role requires the skills to lead design, programming and commissioning of industrial projects using current PLC/HMI based control systems technology as well as manage the schedule, resources and budgets of projects and people. Industries served include Water/Wastewater, Food & Beverage, Mining, and general Manufacturing.

    Location:  must be willing to live in the Phoenix, AZ area

    Responsibilities:

    • Maintain a world-class team and make sure members maintain technologically current and relevant skillsets
    • Ensure that Team members are consistently and meaningfully engaged by management, and feel valued, successful, and hopeful in their positions
    • Work with HR on team development, performance, reviews, and staffing levels
    • Develop onboarding strategies to get new hires up to speed as quickly as possible
    • Ensure that their Integration team stays profitable
    • Maintain company's gross margins at agreed-to levels
    • Work with project managers on keeping the team busy and properly utilized on projects
    • Eliminate waste and increase efficiency through internal automation and reuse
    • Set and maintain overhead budgets for the team
    • Continuously improve
    • Ensure consistency and reliability through appropriate and consistent use of processes and procedures
    • Proactively analyze individual or system failures, develop and implement solutions to prevent a recurrence
    • Regularly review and improve existing processes and procedures, create new ones as needed, and eliminate obsolete or unnecessary ones.

    Qualifications

    • Experience as a Sr. Controls Engineer with leadership and project management
    • Four-year engineering degree preferred
    • 7 years of experience in industrial automation including expert knowledge of industrial automation and information systems delivery methods
    • Strong leadership skills
    • Strong negotiation skills
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Fluent in written and spoken English
    • Basic business knowledge including markup, margins, overhead costs, unit costs, etc.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including but not limited to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
