    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Project Manager – Planning and Design oversees planning and design projects during the pre-construction, construction, and closeout phases. The PM must have the knowledge and experience to check design drawings and specifications, manage and run meetings, propose value engineering solutions that reduce project costs, and build and maintain a positive working relationship with the pre-development consultants and the client. The position requires a high degree of autonomy with little supervision, and the ability to supervise design team consultants, owner vendors and City stakeholders. The PM must be able to work in environments ranging from office settings, construction sites, and bustling airline terminals.

    DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

    Assist in administration of aviation facility improvement, renovation, and remodel projects

    Assist with the preparation and support of development work plans for each project

    Compile, track, and transmit project related documents and maintain and upload to a document control project file system

    Prepare memos, reports, briefings and other client deliverables that include spreadsheets, complex graphs, charts and tables

    Manage and run weekly meetings and provide follow-up documentation

    Build and maintain a positive working relationship with the client

    Additional responsibilities may include assisting with creating monthly dashboard reports, and program budgeting

    Provide clear concise communication to all stakeholders

    Provide continuity through all phases of the program

    Review monthly invoices

    Assist in vendor selection, manage progress of pre-development and consultants, report progress, review/process agreements and change orders.

    Propose value engineering solutions to reduce program costs

    Provide cost estimating and change order management

    Assist planning and design development team with tracking and reporting of all Planning and Design Activities including: Phasing, Geotechnical and Environmental, site civil as well as design activities

    Manage and collect all client and stakeholder planning and design comments through program closure

    Verify design team/construction documents with airline standards, Airport Design and Construction Handbook, TSA Guidelines, Building Code, etc.

    Check planning and design drawings, specifications, shop drawings, request for information, and regularly review with the airport authority

    Lead and coordinate all planning work to fully define the project to a sufficient level to meet the overall design

    Provide Planning and Design Schedule Management and Control

    Provide oversight to the continued development of the Project Definition Manual

    SKILLS and EXPERIENCE

    Experience working for an Aviation-related development firm as a planner or designer

    Experience and/or training in program and project management

    Planning and Design experience

    Excel at working collaboratively with clients, contractors, architects, and other industry professionals

    Experience in planning, and executing projects on aggressive schedules

    Extensive knowledge of planning and design phases of complex multi-year public works projects

    Leadership and problem-solving skills

    Excellent oral and written communication skills

    Ability to be self-directed, self-motivating, and self-disciplined

    Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

    Ability to conduct regular site walks

    Coursework in architecture and engineering

    B.S. in Planning, Architecture or Engineering

    10 years of experience in a Planning/Design management capacity on an aviation-related development program
