    JMT’s Lake Mary, FL office is growing and seeks a motivated individual who desires responsibilities involving a variety of highway bridge and structure projects at the local, county, or state level. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing highway bridge and transportation structure projects of varying complexity in accordance with AASHTO and FDOT specifications; preparing and checking plans prepared by others for conformance with specifications and standards; designing and detailing structural components; preparing construction cost estimates and specifications; and reviewing shop drawings. The successful candidate must be experienced in the design of bridges and miscellaneous highway structures (culverts, retaining walls, sound barriers, etc.) with a working knowledge of using industry accepted design standards, criteria, and software. The successful candidate must have strong leadership skills and be capable of working well with team members to ensure design submittals are delivered on time and within budget.  The work may involve some travel to observe conditions in the field, participate in plan reviews and client meetings, and participate in public meetings or interview presentations.

    Required Skills

    • Ability to analyze statically determinate and indeterminate structures and bridges

    • Knowledge of structural design principles for steel, reinforced concrete, and prestressed concrete for both superstructure and substructure components

    • Familiarity with practices and procedures for structural detailing

    • Ability to work on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced team oriented environment

    • Ability to write, speak, and communicate clearly

    Required Experience

    • Experience with construction cost estimating
    • Experience in using structural analysis and design software, Microstation drafting software, and proficiency in Microsoft Office software including WORD and EXCEL
    • BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited undergraduate engineering curriculum and/or the possession of an MS or ME with emphasis in structures
    • Florida PE license
    • 10-15 years of experience in the design and detailing of highway bridges and structures, FDOT bridge design and detailing experience preferred

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

     

    Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
