    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    The Assistant Designer supports the design process by serving as a liaison to Technical Design and Sourcing. This individual administers the PDM needs for the design area and ensures that spec packages and updates are communicated effectively.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assist in adapting the concept for the season to the individual merchandise areas to which he or she is assigned.
    • Assist in partnering with production, fabric development, and sourcing to design merchandise that fits within the costing parameters and target customer profile of the brand strategy.
    • Ensure company objectives are met by helping create product that can drive sales and profitability in the organization.
    • Administer the PDM needs for his or her area.
    • Organize and build concept boards and presentations.
    • Develop strong partnerships with key business partners to ensure alignment (e.g., Merchandising, Technical Design, and Sourcing).
    • Support and participate in the Onboarding process of new associates.
    • Foster a team environment in which information flows freely and decision making is based on a win-win philosophy; work towards desired outcomes by leveraging resources to achieve common organizational goals.
    • Get to know the New York & Company customer by spending time in New York & Company stores during the Store Immersion process.
    • Help create designs based on Merchant line plans and incorporate feedback for finalization.
    • Assist in reviewing the line plan with the Merchants and agree on overall direction and content of the line for a season.
    • Assist in the development of the complete concept for the season and adapt it appropriately to the individual merchandise areas to which he or she is assigned.

    Required Skills Required Experience

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • 1-3 years of experience.
    • Excellent design and sketching skills; Strong fashion and creative senses; keen trend awareness.
    • Excel and Illustrator excellence.
    • Strong English language skills, both written and verbal.
    • Strong presentation skills and an ability to work well within a team-based environment.

    EDUCATION:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Design or relevant experience
