JOB SUMMARY:
- Plans, directs, and administers nursing care to patients during any stage of the adult life span.
- Cares for children or adolescents over 80 pounds or 36kg (approximate age of 12).
- Cares for patient physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs, in coordination with the medical plan of care.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Correctly prepares patient/chart for ordered procedure/surgery
- Initiates and provides immediate post-procedure care per policies/MD orders
- Patient received post procedure per policy
- Completion of post-procedure vital signs per policy/MD orders
- Communication of post-procedure orders to caregivers
- Confirms status of surgical site if applicable
- Provides effective pain management
- Provides interventions for pain management/patient comfort
- Documents status of patient pain/comfort, interventions, and response to interventions
- Provides proper and safe administration and patient education of PCA pain management pursuant to policy and procedures and/or MD orders.
- Follows clinical pathways per protocols
- Performs purposeful rounding addressing the 4 Ps according to the standard of work.
- Identifies patients at risk for potential or actual skin breakdown and provides appropriate care
- Performs and documents complete skin assessment upon admission and every shift thereafter
- Initiates skin care protocols as needed
- Makes referral to wound nurse if indicated
- Provides proper, safe and competent chemotherapy pursuant to facility policies and procedures and in accordance with NCCN guidelines.
- Maintains ability to perform various clerical duties of unit secretary when necessary including accurate utilization of the electronic medical record.
- Charge Nurse Duties additionally include:
- Knowledgeable of current activities and patients on the nursing unit
- Addresses pertinent problems which occur during the shift and follows through to resolution
- Appropriately coordinates activities of unit personnel to include assignments, anticipate staffing needs, bed utilization, and is a clinical resource to team members
- Keeps unit manager and/or assistant director informed of the activities, problems, etc., relating to the unit and seeks assistance from appropriate persons when needed
- Offers to assist others when work is completed without being prompted
- Supervises, teaches, and evaluates the work of nursing staff
- Follows hospital policy and procedures related to all isolation precautions
- Appropriate handling of Pyxis discrepancies
Required Skills
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Must hold a current RN license in the state of Kentucky.
EDUCATION: Requires knowledge formally gained in a school for the preparation of a Registered Nurse.
EXPERIENCE: Previous related experience preferred, but not required.
