    REQ NAME: Video Systems Engineer II

    BUSINESS UNIT: Tech Engineering & Network

     

    REQUIREMENTS:

     

    Description: Assists in the analysis of present systems and operations; documents existing procedures and operating methods; defines requested system requirements; and analyzes documentation files and reports.

    Design, evaluate, implement, and support audio and video collection, processing, and distribution systems.

    Make recommendations for the introduction of or enhancements to new and existing technologies and products in the Cox video product portfolio. Key technologies include MPEG-2, H.264, and H.265 compression, multi-bitrate encoding, multiplexing, transcoding, packaging, statistical multiplexing and their associated management systems in various implementations.

    Perform evaluation of equipment as needed for various projects.

    Design, procure and oversee the building of test suites for lab testing. Make formal recommendations for system implementations and/or enhancements based on analysis and evaluations.

    Ensures system is maintained at a top performance level and ensures that all technical aspects of the systems design are met. Performs daily, weekly and monthly checks and maintenance to ensure system continues to run at peak condition.

    Installs, wires and configures new equipment in complex networked systems and validates proper operation.

    Maintain documentation and perform other administration duties.

    Assist in troubleshooting system issues, will act as field support representative on all system outages.

     

    Requirements: The Video Systems Engineers responsibility is focused on providing support for future and deployed

    digital technologies.

    This position will contribute to the support team responsible for implementing,

    launching, and supporting new digital video technologies which are expected to include such projects

    as CCAP and IP compliant CPE devices supporting an all-digital-video services offering.

    Responsibilities also include support of deployed technologies with an emphasis on developing

    process to assist in system modifications to achieve Cox configuration standards with minimum end

    user impact.

    The Digital Video Support team develops processes, procedures and supports systems

    in the implementation of changes on operational HFC cable plants delivering digital video to live

    customers. This is achieved by incorporating new technologies into a lab environment testing

    tracking and documenting change procedures and impact.

    Conducting research related to the

    technologies with the vendors, systems and other engineering groups is required and accomplished

    through the implementation and maintenance of the technologies in the lab environment.

    This

    individual will be required to assess complex technologies with various technical and business

    interdependencies and develop test plans and scenarios to verify intended results while safeguarding

    the core digital video operations.

    In the past this team has supported the launch of core digital video

    Scientific-Atlanta and Motorola networks/controllers and advanced digital video offerings such as

    High Definition Television (HDTV), Network Digital Video Recorders (NDVR), core interactive

    Infrastructures.

     

    Highlighted areas identify the key areas to concentrate on.

    This resource is not expected to be heavily involved in the architecture or technical recommendation of the systems.

    This not a Lead or Management position but a true head down Systems Engineer dealing with the technology.

     

    Additional Information:

    Resource is expected to spend a major portion of their time in the lab working on testing and validating Video systems.

    They are expected to be knowledgeable on the latest Digital Video Technologies particularly IP based Video.
