    JOB SUMMARY:

     

    The Director of Professional Billing Services is responsible for the successful operation and performance of the physician enterprise revenue cycle for Stamford Health System (SHS). The Director plays the lead role in the strategic direction, goal-setting and performance management of the Professional Revenue Cycle.

     

    MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES / CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provides operating oversight of practice operations related to the revenue cycle, coding compliance and health information management inclusive of all business related functions of the patient visit from point of entry to accurate adjudication of patient’s accounts for professional services delivered by system employed physicians (SHIP and TSH) in the outpatient and inpatient settings.

    • Develops and implements a vision and business/operating plans targeted to promote the growth and enhancement of professional fee revenue cycle services utilizing information technology and best practice protocols.

    • Oversees the development and implementation of service standards and operating systems to optimize patient flow and revenue including information systems, patient flow, scheduling, central billing office management, registration, charge capture and cash management.

    • Works collaboratively with hospital clinical departments, Registration, Patient Billing Services, Revenue Cycle and HIM staff and leadership

    • Provides for the adequate training of staff and the development of IT/IS infrastructure.

    • In partnership with the CEO, COO or CMO ensures the existence of state-of-the-art systems for tracking, evaluating, and communicating patterns in charge management.

    • Supports the professional development of personnel, physicians and administrative leaders

    • Participates as a team member of the Leadership Team.

    • Assures that all departmental systems incorporate the principles of total and continuous quality improvement.

    • Evaluates effectiveness of billing and collections work functions, and implements changes to policies, procedures.

    • Monitors and researches regulatory changes and proposes actions to respond to changing legislation/regulations.

    • In conjunction with other department leaders, implements strategic and operational initiatives in Accounts Receivable Management.

    • Develops and maintains an annual professional development plan.

    Required Skills

    • Master’s degree in health administration or other related field is preferred.

    • Minimum of ten (10) years healthcare revenue cycle experience in a provider setting.

    • Prior leadership experience, including revenue cycle operations and planning and execution as well as formulating policy, developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.

    • Financial management skills, including the ability to financially analyze data for operations, budgeting, auditing, forecasting; basic accounting knowledge; AR and reserve analysis, market analysis; staffing and financial reporting skills.

    • Brings an aptitude for building relationships.

    • A hands-on approach to management with the ability to be strategic.

    • Has outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.

    • A leader who can think strategically, then proactively implement strategies in a logical and timely manner.

    • Is decisive, holds people accountable while promoting a team philosophy.
