SR. SCIENTIST/LEADER

ST. PAUL, MN

DESCRIPTION:

This position will be located at our Willow Lake facility and is responsible for managing laboratory technical service work to support our insulating glass (IG) product line.  The position will focus on management of laboratory-based technical services work as well as ownership of the Americas IG Center of Excellence.  The position will provide applications and product information to internal and external customers as requested, and will be responsible for the development and maintenance of said documentation.  The Laboratory Technical Service Manager will work closely with the Window Business to ensure current and future needs are being fulfilled through execution of lab projects, successful demonstrations through the IG CoE, and collaboration with the global IG team to manage North American commercialization of IG sealants and products.

PRIMARY DUTIES

Provide technical and sales support to the Window Business by applying both theoretical and practical engineering skills to:

• Researching and recommending application processes at customers or co-suppliers
• Setup and support of IG application lines
• Troubleshooting internal and customer applications equipment and processes
• Researching alternative or competitive methods and products to assist Marketing with value quantification
• Managing field technical service requests from internal and external customers
• Managing, coaching, and developing direct reports consisting of applications specialists
• Generating monthly reports on laboratory technical service activities

50%: Manage laboratory technical service requests and ensure timely and correct completion.  Coach, mentor, and develop direct reports. Complaint investigation and root cause analysis. Must employ and demonstrate competent conclusions to complaints by performing investigations, collaborating with Window technical team and the customer. Standard documentation and protocols must be followed.

30%: Manage the Americas IG Center of Excellence, conduct applications studies for internal and external customers, and ensure maintenance of the CoE.

20%: Provide training to the Window business, independent representatives, and customers on IG sealant characteristics and application parameters.  Develop and maintain technical documentation around product characteristics and applications.

REQUIREMENTS: 

• 4 + years Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
• 2 + years of Project Management experience
• 1 + years of technical expertise with insulating glass sealant applications and product parameters
• 2 + years of experience managing projects effectively interacting with customers, co-suppliers, and multiple internal functions (technical, commercial, etc.)
• 2 + years of experience with product recommendations that align with customer needs and HBF business strategy
