  • Responsibilities

    ESGW Direct Support Professional (DSP) Coordinator possess a specialty expertise in services offered by Adult and Community Services. This expertise is derived from additional education/training or experience in supports/services to meet contractual obligations set forth by funding sources and internal expectations. DSP Coordinator will provide positive engaging support to individuals, assure the needs of each person are met in their self-directed, day-to-day life, according to their individual plan of care and their personal dreams and goals, including: supporting each person’s right to make their own choices without judgement, activities of daily life, health and wellness, leisure, medication, hygiene, safety, personal goals, self-help skills, communication, self-advocacy, transportation, adventures, exploration and enhancement of quality of life as they move to live as independently as possible. This emphasis on empowerment and participation for people served is critical. 

    Required Skills

     

    • Empower and assist individuals to make informed decisions and follow through with responsibilities.
    • Engage individuals in meaningful physical and cognitive activities.
    • Lead by example when performing accurate and timely documentation.
    • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
    • Remain calm under pressure.
    • Communicate with individuals of varying skill levels.
    • Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification, Medication Assistance Training, and MANDT certification
    • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather

    Required Experience

     

    • High School/Equivalent
    • 1-3 years experience working with individuals with disabilities/aging, special education, personal care preferred.
    • Experience/training working in supports/services and/or employment services.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

     

    Must be able to:

    • Sit, stand and walk at an assigned location(s) and work for extended periods of time; bend/stoop, kneel and balance frequently; climb, reach above shoulder level; push/pull, squat and crouch occasionally; with assistance, lift, carry and position individuals of various weight.
    • Llift and carry up to 50 pounds and be able to reach for items from overhead or lift items off of the floor. Ability to move independently or with reasonable accommodation within the facility and community.
    • Assist individual with activities of daily living (e.g. personal hygiene).
    • Assist persons served to push/maneuver wheelchairs, use walkers, crutches or other physical assistive devices.
    • Ensure workers' safety during lifting a person to floor or chair, or moving them to a safe area (e.g. during a seizure).
    • Assist persons served with therapy regimes prescribed by a physician such as range of motion exercises and utilization of various OT/PT material/equipment.
    • Assist persons served to use restrooms-transferring on and off stool.
    • Assist persons served in a variety of settings (indoor/outdoor/vehicles)
    • To drive multi-passenger vehicles for extended periods throughout the day.
