    JMT's growing Structures Team is seeking a Bridge Inspector / Structural Design Engineer for our YORK, HARRISBURG, ALLENTOWN OR FT. WASHINGTON Offices. 

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

    • Conduct inspections of in-service transportation structures such as bridges, culverts, retaining walls and traffic device support structures owned by PennDOT and PA Turnpike Commission
    • Plan and schedule inspections, perform inspections, and prepare inspection reports
    • Field inspection work will require some travel and staying overnight at lodging near site during the week.
    • Design bridge and transportation structure projects of varying complexity such as bridges, culverts, retaining walls, sound barriers and sign structures
    • Prepare and check plans prepared by others for conformance with specifications and standards
    • Design and detail structural components
    • Prepare construction cost estimates and specifications
    • Review shop drawings
    • Perform existing condition assessments
    • Perform inspections of bridge and transportation structures in support of developing reports and repair and rehabilitation recommendations

    Required Skills

    • Ability to analyze statically determinate and indeterminate structures and bridges
    • Knowledge of structural design principles for steel, reinforced concrete, and prestressed concrete for both superstructure and substructure components
    • Ability to work on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced team oriented environment
    • Experience in using structural analysis and design software, MicroStation drafting software, and proficiency in Microsoft Office software including WORD and EXCEL
    • Ability to write, speak, and communicate clearly

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering 
    • PennDOT Certified Bridge Safety Inspector (CBSI)
    • EIT preferred
    • 2-5 years of experience in performing bridge safety inspections and designing bridges and miscellaneous highway structures such as culverts, retaining walls, sound barriers and sign structures
    • Familiarity with practices and procedures for structural detailing
    • Experience with construction cost estimating

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Work is performed within a general office environment 67% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. 

    Field work is required approximately 33% of the time where work will be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions and on uneven terrain or surfaces.  Candidate must have the ability to perform inspections while bending, kneeling, or standing, and lift or carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds as needed.
