    This position will support the 47th Cyber Test Squadron, located in our newly renovated aircraft cyber lab at Edwards AFB, CA. The lab includes a large, RF-shielded test space and a collaboration space with floor-to-ceiling windows that look out directly on the runway.

     Our aircraft cyber test team is searching for new members to help us conduct vulnerability research and penetration tests on aircraft systems. If you enjoy working in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment, learning new technology areas, and breaking things, this is the place for you! If you like aviation, working on the most advanced aircraft in the world is also a plus. We provide a number of opportunities to learn ranging from on-the-job training with other team members to formal courses for unique technology areas.

     DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Lead reverse engineering and exploitation of embedded aircraft and munitions hardware and software.
    • Lead development of test strategy and tools for testing embedded aircraft and munitions hardware and software.
    • Communicate test results to technical and non-technical stakeholders both orally and in writing.
    • Advise leaders on the formulation of test capability, system analysis, and infrastructure development strategies.
    • Research existing and emerging threats to systems under test and develop test plans to assess vulnerabilities.
    • Support IP-based penetration test efforts as required.

    Required Skills Required Experience

    ONE OF THE FOLLOWING COMBINATIONS IS REQUIRED: Master’s Degree in a technical discipline and a minimum of 10 years of technical experience -OR- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline and 18 years of technical experience –OR- HS Diploma or Equivalent and 22 years of technical experience.

    • A great attitude, curiosity, and a willingness to learn
    • At least 3 years of experience with software reverse engineering and associated tools like IDA Pro, Ghidra, Binary Ninja, etc.
    • Familiarity with at least one common processor architecture and assembly language (x86, PPC, MIPS, etc)
    • Software development experience is desired, but at least some scripting experience in Python, Ruby or similar language is required.
    • The ability to obtain a DOD SECRET security clearance is required. US Citizenship.
    • Must be able to obtain DOD 8570 IAT Level 3 certification (CASP, CISSP, etc.) within 6 months of hire, and maintain certification throughout employment.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:

    • Experience with software security testing and associated tools (ie static code analysis, fuzzers, etc).
    • Experience with aircraft avionics and/or wireless data links.
    • Experience designing, building, or testing embedded systems.
    • Experience developing code for the Green Hills Integrity, Vx Works, or other real-time operating systems.
    • Experience with a non-IP bus protocol (CAN bus, Mil-Std 1553, ARINC 429, etc).
    • Experience testing networks using Nessus, Wireshark, Metasploit, Kali, Nmap and related tools.
    • Understanding of network security/engineering.
    • Knowledge of common wired and wireless network protocol structures.
    • Experience with the DoD testing and evaluation process.
    • Certified Ethical Hacker and/or Offensive Security Certified Professional certification(s)

    PERSONNEL REQUIREMENTS

     

    The Junior Program Officer should have the following skills:

     

    • Some education and/or work experience related to international cultural or academic exchanges, and/or other types of international study programming;
    • Some experience with U.S. government and Department of State (DOS) administrative policies and procedures as they pertain to financial and operational management of international exchange programs;
    • Discretion and superb judgement in handling information related to prominent and senior government officials;
    • Ability to interact with all nationalities in a culturally sensitive manner;
    • Some experience in program administration, operating procedures, oversight, and monitoring;
    • Facility with standard software, including the complete Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, SharePoint), and an ability to learn and work with other software, as well as database applications;
    • Excellent, timely, and precise organizational skills and multi-tasking abilities;
    • Excellent critical and creative thinking and analytical skills, as well as research abilities;
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to maintain effective liaison with other Department of State offices, diplomatic posts, Fulbright Commission colleagues, program partners, and other entities involved in academic exchange programs;
    • Ability and willingness to work independently but with direction from supervision, in a high volume, fast-paced work environment;
    • Demonstrates a flexible, team-oriented approach to work with an interest in building and maintaining strong working relationships with colleagues;
    • Knowledge of, or ability to learn travel authorization, travel arranging, timekeeping systems is highly desirable.

     

    SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:   

     

    • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level.
    • Preferably a bachelor’s degree, but no required.
    • Some academic or professional experience in international affairs or exchange programs is preferred for this position.
