    JMT is seeking a Drainage Project Engineer to join JMT’s Water Resources Department in our Austin or Round Rock, Texas office. The Drainage Project Engineer will be responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments. The Drainage Project Engineer will be expected to work on projects and/or with staff in multiple locations from their home office.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Design and develop computations for storm drains, erosion and sediment control, and traditional and innovative green stormwater management infrastructure
    • Perform mitigation impact studies
    • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects
    • Perform and oversee the performance of design computations
    • Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools
    • Develop construction cost estimates
    • Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction
    • Coordinate with clients, external team members, and internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality
    • Train and mentor junior staff at all levels of project execution

    Required Skills

    • Understanding of basic stormwater and drainage concepts
    • Microstation and/or AutoCAD drafting experience
    • Strong oral and written communication skills for preparation of project reports
    • Ability to build client relationships
    • Capable of working on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced, team-oriented environment

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program.
    • PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER LICENSE OR THE ABILITY TO RECEIVE A LICENSE WITHIN 16 MONTHS OF HIRE
    • 6+ YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN DRAINAGE ENGINEERING
    • 2+ YEARS OF WORKING WITH AND TRAINING JUNIOR STAFF
    • EXPERIENCE IN TXDOT DRAINAGE DESIGN FOR TXDOT TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS
    • FAMILIAR WITH TXDOT DESIGN STANDARDS AND TXDOT DRAINAGE MANUAL
    • Experience with GEOPAK Drainage and HEC-RAS. TXDOT drainage design, stormwater management design
    • Erosion and sediment control design preferred
    • Edwards Aquifer/TCEQ water quality design preferred
    • Familiarity with watersheds and FEMA floodplain mapping preferred

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS 

    Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. 

    Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
