We are hiring a part-time plant technician for the summer (May to Sept) to independently manage plant care one day a week in the field at a farm in Roseboro, NC, and one day a week in the greenhouses at either RTP or Duke University. The hours and work days are flexible, but the applicant is required to provide their own transportation to the work sites. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, able to work independently, effectively communicate with staff biologists, and has some previous experience with plant care. We welcome any applicants that feel they would be a good fit for this position.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Expectation of spending about one day a week at a farm in Roseboro and one day a week in the greenhouses in RTP, but we are flexible on the specific days/hours
• Monitoring plant health across a field season
• Collecting plant tissue samples and some plant measurements in the field
• Hand harvesting weeds
• Assistance with monthly drone imaging
• Good communication with staff biologists about plant conditions

REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERRED SKILLS

• Familiarity with agriculture, gardening, or plant care
• Access to a car
• Ability to work independently
• Good attention to detail

COMPENSATION

• $15/hour
• Car allowance to cover gas and mileage for use of personal vehicle
